Cincinnati Summit Country Day Claims Third OHSAA Girls Soccer State Title in School History
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 1 Cincinnati Summit Country Day defeated No. 9 Kirtland 4-0 in the 2017 OHSAA Division III girls soccer state championship match Friday at MAPFRE Stadium. The win gives Summit Country Day its second title in the past three years, and third overall.

Early goals from a pair of midfielders gave the Silver Knights the momentum they needed to control the remainder of the game. Junior Colleen McIlvenna scored first (fourth minute), with senior captain Ravin Alexander finding the back of the net shortly thereafter (fifth minute). Both McIlvenna and Alexander assisted on the other's goal.

Summit Country Day took a 3-0 lead into the halftime locker room after Alexander headed in a corner kick for her second goal of the game and 41st of the season with just over five minutes remaining. Kirtland's offense was unable to get a shot off in the first half.

The final goal of the game came ten minutes into the second half when McIlvenna scored her second of the game, once again on an assist from Alexander. The 4-0 victory for the Silver Knights marks their 14th clean sheet of the season.

This was Kirtland's (15-5-3) first trip to the OHSAA state championship, while Summit Country Day (22-1-0) stayed undefeated in its three trips to the state finals. They also won in 2011, and 2015.

Cincinnati Indian Hill Finishes Season Unbeaten, Defeats Mentor Lake Catholic 2-0 for School's First State Championship
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 1 Cincinnati Indian Hill finished the season unbeaten by defeating Mentor Lake Catholic (18-4-1) 2-0 in the 2017 OHSAA Division II girls soccer state championship game Friday at MAPFRE Stadium.

It took just one minute and 26 seconds for Indian Hill (22-0-1) to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Senior forward Morgan Jackson, a four-time all-league player in the Cincinnati Hills League, was the goal-scorer for the Braves.

Just as Lake Catholic started to put some pressure on the Braves defense late in the first half, Indian Hill was able to set up a counter attack that was capped off with junior Anna Podojil's 38th goal of the season. Indian Hill took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Podojil's 33rd minute goal.

Lake Catholic came out with a sense of urgency and saw a few scoring opportunities early in the second half, but were unsuccessful in getting anything past Indian Hill keeper Kate Marrs. As the clock dwindled, Indian Hill condensed its defense and was content to walk away with the 2-0 championship victory.

This was Indian Hill's first state championship in three trips to the finals, while Lake Catholic had never reached a state final before.

Loveland Defeats Perrysburg 1-0 to Win Its First OHSAA Girls Soccer State Championship
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 2 Loveland defeated No. 7 Perrysburg 1-0 to win the OHSAA Division I girls soccer state championship on a frigid Friday night at MAPFRE Stadium.

Just under halfway through the first half, Loveland (22-1-0) pressure forced Perrysburg (17-3-3) to turn it over deep in its own zone and Loveland's Brooke Harden capitalized with a strike from 27 yards out to put the Tigers up 1-0. Harden's goal ended as the lone goal of the game.

In the 70th minute, Perrysburg senior Kristina DeMarco had arguably the best scoring opportunity for the Yellow Jackets, but DeMarco's shot from just inside the 18-yard box was saved by Loveland keeper and captain Lauren Parker.

The victory for the Loveland marks the first OHSAA girls soccer state championship in school history. The Tigers also reached the finals in 2015. This was Perrysburg's second trip to the state championship game, as they won the title in 2012.

Columbus St. Francis DeSales Finishes Season Undefeated, Beat Bay Village Bay 4-0 for Seventh State Championship
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 1 Columbus St. Francis DeSales defeated Bay Village Bay 4-0, in the 2017 OHSAA Division II boys soccer state championship match Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium to finish the season undefeated, DeSales first undefeated season since 1992. With the 4-0 shutout victory, DeSales outscored their seven postseason opponents 38-0.

After a number of scoring chances early in the first half, DeSales (22-0-1) broke the 0-0 tie when junior Michael Cockerell got one passed the Bay (17-5-1) keeper, Brent Hull, from 25 yards out with 23:29 left in the half.

Over the course of the next 28 minutes of game action, DeSales added three goals, all of which were assisted by senior midfielder Hector Gomez. The three assists for Gomez is an OHSAA Division II championship game record. Nick Fuchs added two of the three goals, which ties the OHSAA record, while Christian Gomez, Hector's younger brother, had the third.

With the win, DeSales now has seven (2015, 2014, 2009, 1997, 1992, 1986) OHSAA boys soccer state championships, second behind only Cleveland St. Ignatius' eight. Cincinnati Summit Country Day Complete The Three-Peat, Defeat Toledo Ottawa Hills 1-0
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 1 Cincinnati Summit Country Day defeated No. 3 Toledo Ottawa Hills 1-0 to win the 2017 OHSAA Division III boys soccer state championship Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium. Summit Country Day (17-3-2) has now won three consecutive state championships, five of the last six, and six overall.

It was a defensive battle from the start as the two teams combined to put only four shots on goal all game. It wasn't until the 79th minute that the Silver Knights were able to break the tie when junior forward Eli Rawlings finished a cross from Henry Schertzinger, who missed the entire regular season due to injury. Rawlings goal was all the Silver Knights needed, as the defense held firm the final ten minutes of the match.

This was the Ottawa Hills Green Bears (20-1-2) second trip to the state championship match, as they won the title in 2008.

Summit Country Day completed a sweep of the Division III championships as the girls team defeated Kirtland 4-0 on Friday to win the title.

The Summit Country Day boys program now possesses the longest active tournament win streak at 21 games, and falls behind only Columbus St. Francis DeSales (7) and Cleveland St. Ignatius (8) in number of state championships.

Beavercreek Wins First State Championship, Defeats Medina 1-0 in a Double Overtime Thriller
Columbus, OHIO -- No. 2 Beavercreek defeated Medina 1-0 in double overtime to win the 2017 OHSAA Division I boys soccer state championship Saturday night at MAPFRE Stadium. The win gives Beavercreek its first boys soccer state championship, after coming up short in its two previous title game appearances (2008, 1990).

After 96 minutes of scoreless action, it was the captain-to-captain duo of Ryan Bernt and Dominic Calabrese that broke the tie and gave Beavercreek (22-0-2) its first state championship. Just one minute into the second overtime period, Calabrese sent a header down the right side of the box to Bernt who was able to beat the Medina keeper, Tyler Glasenapp, on the far side of the net. Glasenapp saved six of the seven shots he faced.

Following the game, when discussing what it took from his players, Beavercreek coach John Guiliano said, "these player just came to practice every day, and worked hard...a lot of these guys were able to put personal goals aside for the good of the team."

The last time a Division I championship game went to overtime was 2009, when Gahanna Lincoln defeated Cleveland St. Ignatius in a shootout.

This was Medina's (16-2-5) first trip to the state championship game, in just two postseason appearances.
