Q&A with OHSAA
tennis championships administrator Roxanne Price
October 13, 2008
From aces to umpires, Roxanne Price has the Ohio state high school
girls tennis championships covered.
In her second year as an assistant commissioner for the Ohio High
School Athletic Association, Price oversees the administration of the girls state tennis
championships, which descend on the Ohio State Universitys Stickney Tennis Center
Friday and Saturday.
OHSAA.org caught up with Price Oct. 9 at the OHSAA central office as
she continued preparations for the OHSAA tennis championships.
Q: What does it mean
to host the high school state championships at a place like Ohio State?
A: When people think
of a state championship, they think of it being in the state capital, which represents all
counties. Its nice to be able to host the tennis championship in the capital city
and at Ohio State being the flagship institution. The Buckeyes have a great facility and
have had a lot of success in tennis, which adds to our event. And Ohio State is looking to
renovate its tennis facility beginning early next year, so thatll make the high
school state championships even bigger.
Q: In the event of
bad weather, the championships will move to Elysium Tennis in Plain City. What does it
mean to have such a nice facility available if needed?
A: First off,
Elysium is a fantastic facility. When we need to move indoor, it makes play a little more
constrained, but Elysium helps ease that with its spectator seating, which is above the
courts so fans can look down on all courts at the same time. And there are eight courts
available, so its a big facility, and Elysium has already reserved its facility for
us for the two days of our championship, so we can get in there quicker if we have a
weather delay.
Q: Are there any
details that fans should know about before traveling for the state tennis championships?
A: Just a reminder
that no coolers are allowed and that concessions will be sold on site. An OHSAA
merchandise vendor will also be on site.
