OHSAA Serves Up Boys State Tennis Tournament
One of the oldest
championships in Ohio high school history, this spring marks the
90th Annual State Boys Tennis Tournament. Only boys track has
witnessed more state championships.
What can fans keep
their eyes on this week as some of the state’s best athletes arrive
in Columbus at the Stickney Tennis Center? OHSAA Assistant
Commissioner Roxanne Price, who oversees the boys tennis
championships, answered some questions in preparation for the
tournament.
Q: What do
you enjoy most about the state tennis tournament?
A: This is
truly a tournament of champions. There is a high level of play from
the participants, and I love the enjoyment you see on their faces
for making it to the tournament. It’s also nice to watch the fans
move from one court to another, even if they don’t know any of the
participants involved.
Q: What is
so unique about the facilities at Ohio State to be able to host the
tournament every year?
A: The good
thing is that we have 12 courts to play on, which permits us to
carry on the tournament without any delay. Ohio State is also
centrally located, being in Columbus, so teams traveling from all
over the state are coming from the same distance. And it’s always
nice to play in the capital city and at the flagship university of
the state of Ohio.
Q: Is there
any other information that fans need to be aware of this weekend?
A:
For parking, Ohio State would prefer if fans entered the lots from
the Olentangy River Road entrance. And in the event of rain, be sure
to check the OHSAA Web site (www.ohsaa.org)
for more information.
