Wapakoneta Wins First Girls Bowling State Championship; Columbus Briggs Senior Tori Pappas Wins Individual State Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Redskins of Wapakoneta won their first girls bowling state championship at the 2015 OHSAA Division I girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl Friday. Wapakoneta defeated Mentor in the state final match, 3-1, in its first appearance at a girls bowling state tournament, bowling scores of 136-196-194-201 to Mentor�s 177-139-125-160. The Wapakoneta boys bowling team won the 2014 Division I boys bowling state title and bowls tomorrow in the Division I boys state tournament.

After qualifying rounds, Wapakoneta defeated Huber Heights Wayne and 2014 girls division I state champion, Beavercreek, to advance to the state final. Mentor was competing in its second girls bowling state tournament. The Cardinals defeated second-seeded Centerville in the state quarterfinals and Kettering Fairmont in the state semifinals to advance to the state championship.

Columbus Briggs senior Tori Pappas won individual state champion honors after bowling a 619 (190-204-225). Pappas is the first individual bowling state champion from Columbus Briggs.

The Division I boys bowling state tournament will be Saturday at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl.

 

 

Beavercreek Wins First Boys Bowling State Championship; Tipp City Tippecanoe�s Ryan Rittenhouse Wins Individual State Title

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Beavercreek defeated Huber Heights Wayne in five frames to win its first boys bowling state championship at the 2015 OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament Saturday at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl. The Beavers� scores of 147-182-176-160-160 to Huber Heights Wayne�s scores of 158-156-159-182-112 were enough to earn the victory and state title.

 

Beavercreek entered the Championship Round as the eight seed after bowling a final team score of 3,198. The Beavers defeated one-seeded Hillsboro in five frames in the state quarterfinals and defeated 2014 Division I boys state champion Wapakoneta in the state semifinals, also in five frames, to advance to the state finals. Beavercreek is the first eight-seed to win a boys bowling state championship in the nine-year history of the OHSAA bowling state tournaments.

 

Tipp City Tippecanoe senior Ryan Rittenhouse won the individual state championship with a three-game score of 709 (277-209-223). Rittenhouse is the first boys individual state champion from Tippecanoe.

Coldwater Wins Third Girls Bowling State Championship, Most All-Time

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Coldwater Cavaliers won their third girls bowling state championship, and first in Division II, Friday at the 2015 OHSAA Division II girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl. Coldwater defeated Napoleon in five frames in the state final match, posting scores of 172-115-211-167-177 to Napoleon�s 157-202-173-201-144.

With the victory, Coldwater holds claim to the most state championships in OHSAA girls bowling, which became a sanctioned sport in 2007.. The Cavaliers defeated Urbana and Springfield Kenton Ridge to reach the state finals. Napoleon earned its first state runner-up in girls bowling. Napoleon had made five appearances in the OHSAA girls bowling state tournament prior to 2015.

Bryan freshman Danika Hickey bowled a 678 (179-235-264) to earn individual state champion honors and set a new Division II girls state tournament record for highest three-game series. The previous record was held by 2014 Division II girls individual champion, Urbana�s Taylor Bodey (658).

The Division II boys bowling state tournament will be held Saturday and the Division I girls and boys state bowling tournaments will be March 13-14 at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.

 

Coldwater Boys Join Coldwater Girls Team as 2015 State Champions and Three-Time State Champions

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Coldwater Cavaliers won their third all-time OHSAA boys bowling state championship Saturday at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl at the 2015 OHSAA Division II boys state bowling tournament. With the victory, the Coldwater boys joined the Coldwater girls team as Division II state bowling champions in 2015.

Coldwater is the only school to claim a girls and boys bowling state champion in the same year and the only school to have a three-time state champion in OHSAA boys and girls bowling. The Cavaliers boys and girls bowling teams also won state titles in 2012.

Coldwater defeated Wooster Triway in three sets in the state championship match, using scores of 193-177-229 to overcome Triway�s scores of 175-160-186. The Cavaliers defeated Pemberville Eastwood and Napoleon on their way to the state final match. Wooster Triway was making its first appearance as a state qualifier in the OHSAA boys bowling state tournament. Triway defeated Plain City Jonathan Alder and Versailles on its way to earning its first state runner-up trophy.

Coldwater sophomore Trey James claimed the individual state championship after bowling a 652 (227-226-199). James is the first boys individual state champion from Coldwater. Wooster Triway junior Chace Cogar earned state runner-up honors, bowling a 650 (194-231-225).

The Division I girls and boys state bowling tournaments will be March 13-14 at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.
