		2015 State Championship Recap
 
		National Trail Raceway in Hebron hosted the 
		87th annual boys and 38th annual girls state cross country championships 
		on Saturday. Three schools earned their first state championship, three 
		schools repeated as state champions and six individuals took home 
		medalist honors, including one individual who set a National Trail 
		course record, as Pataskala Watkins Memorial senior Andrew Jordan 
		finished as Division I boys medalist with a record breaking time of 
		14:54.0.  
		  
		With Division II state titles in both girls 
		and boys, Lexington became the third school in OHSAA history to win 
		girls and boys cross country state championships in the same year, 
		joining Mogadore Field in 1997 and Salem in 2005. 
		In Division III girls, Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas captured its first 
		girls cross country state championship, using a point total of 69 and an 
		average time of 19:04 to take home the state title. St. Thomas Aquinas 
		senior Athena Welsh finished first overall with a time of 17:58.6 and 
		junior Kalee Soehnlen finished second with a time of 18:10.0. In 
		addition to finishing third in 2014, Welsh also earned her second 
		consecutive gold medal at the 2015 OHSAA boys and girls state track and 
		field tournament, finishing first in the Division III girls 1600M run in 
		2014 and 2015. Minster finished as state runner-up with a point total of 
		87 and an average time of 19:32.
 
 Lexington earned its first girls cross country state championship, 
		finishing first as a team in Division II with a point total of 64 and an 
		average time of 18:59. Four Lexington runners placed in the top 13. Tipp 
		City Tippecanoe took home state runner-up honors with a point total of 
		125 and an average time of 19:30. Kettering Archbishop Alter senior Abby 
		Nichols finished as individual state champion with a time of 18:05.4. 
		Nichols finished eighth in 2014.
 
 Centerville captured its second-consecutive Division I girls state 
		championship and Centerville senior Lainey Studebaker earned her 
		second-consecutive individual state championship. Centerville finished 
		with 71 points and an average time of 18:36. Lainey Studebaker used a 
		time of 17:39.0 to earn medalist honors. Five Centerville runners placed 
		in the top 20. Powell Olentangy Liberty earned state runner-up with a 
		point total of 124 and an average time of 18:52.
 
 In Division III boys, Cortland Maplewood earned its seventh boys cross 
		country state championship with a point total of 61 and an average time 
		of 16:17. With seven state titles, Maplewood is tied for second with 
		McDonald for most boys cross country state championships. Maplewood was 
		led by senior Tristan Dahmen, who earned his second-consecutive 
		individual state championship with a time of 15:18.8. Dahmen also 
		finished second in 2013. Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas finished as state 
		runner-up with a point total of 87 and an average time of 16:17.
 
 Lexington earned the Division II boys state championship, its first in 
		school history. The Minutemen used a point total of 54 and an average 
		time of 16:11 to earn state champion honors. Three Lexington runners 
		placed in the top eight. Tipp City Tippecanoe earned state runner-up 
		with a point total of 77 and average time of 16:19. Chagrin Falls senior 
		Joseph Bistritz earned the individual state title, his second straight, 
		with a time of 15:16.9. Bistritz took home state medalist honors in 2014 
		and finished second in 2013.
 
 In Division I boys, Cleveland St. Ignatius earned its fourth boys cross 
		country state championship with a point total of 66 and average time of 
		15:51. Four St. Ignatius runners finished in the top 16. Mason earned 
		state runner-up with a point total of 96 and average time of 16:05. 
		Pataskala Watkins Memorial senior Andrew Jordan captured the Division I 
		boys individual title with a course record time of 14:54.0. The previous 
		course record was 15:09.95, set by Tipp City Tippecanoe’s Sam Wharton.
