Brecksville-Broadview Heights Continues Title Streak, Claims 14th-Consecutive Gymnastics State Championship
 
HILLIARD, Ohio—The Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnastics team claimed its 14th-straight state team title at the 2017 OHSAA Gymnastics State Tournament Friday at Hilliard Bradley High School.
 
The Bees won three of the four events on their way to 147.150 points, inching out second-place Rocky River Magnificat by a mere 1.075 points. The Bees had winning scores of 37.600 on vault, 36.325 on balance beam and 37.875 on floor exercise. They came in second on the uneven bars, which was won by Magnificat with a score of 36.425. The Blue Streaks came in second place for the other three events. 
 
Rocky River Magnificat finished with a total score of 146.750, good for a second-consecutive state runner-up finish. Mentor finished third with 142.700, its fourth-consecutive top-three finish. Hudson finished fourth with a total score of 139.900, its fourth-consecutive top-five finish.
 
Brecksville-Broadview Heights senior Tessa Phillips Wins State Tournament All Around Competition
 
HILLIARD, Ohio—Brecksville-Broadview Heights senior Tessa Phillips took home the 2017 OHSAA Gymnastics All Around title Saturday afternoon at Hilliard Bradley High School. This is the fifth-consecutive year that a Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnast has won the individual all around competition.
 
Phillips finished with a total score of 37.625, edging out teammate, junior Emily Huffman, by just 0.05 points. Phillips won the floor exercise with a score of 9.700, finished fourth on vault with a score of 9.625, finished third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.325 and scored 8.975 on balance beam.
 
Huffman won the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.500, finished second on the floor exercise with a 9.400 and tied for second on the balance beam with a score of 9.425.
 
North Ridgeville junior Sarah Kegg won the balance beam with a score of 9.450 and Madison junior Gabrielle Blackford won vault with a 9.750.
