2015 State Wrestling Dual Team Tournament Recap

February 14 at St. John Arena, The Ohio State University, Columbus

Delta and St. Paris Graham capture third-consecutive state titles, Brecksville-Broadview Heights wins its first

COLUMBUS, Ohio Delta and St. Paris Graham Local captured their third straight state wrestling dual team tournament state championships and Brecksville-Broadview Heights won its first state title at the 2015 OHSAA State Wrestling Dual Team Tournament at The Ohio State Universitys St. John Arena on Saturday. 2015 marks the third year for the dual team wrestling state tournament.

In a rematch of the 2014 Division III state final, Delta defeated Miamisburg Dayton Christian 44-33. After dropping six of the first eight bouts in the match, Delta climbed back to win the final five bouts to win its third state championship in three appearances at the state dual team tournament. A 64-6 victory in the state quarterfinals over Sycamore Mohawk and 35-22 win in the state semifinals over Milan Edison propelled Delta into the state final match. Miamisburg Dayton Christian earned its second state runner-up at the dual team tournament in its second appearance in the Division III state final.

St. Paris Graham Local also completed a three-peat after defeating Toledo Central Catholic 49-12 in the Division II state final. Graham defeated New Lexington, 66-6, and Lexington, 58-15, to advance to the Division II state final.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights earned its first state wrestling dual team tournament state championship after defeating Lakewood St. Edward 32-30. The Bees from Brecksville trailed going into the final bout of the match, 30-28, but a win through decision by junior Eddie Sternad in the 285 pound weight class was enough to propel the Bees to a 32-30 victory. Brecksville defeated Cincinnati Elder, 51-10, in the state quarterfinals and Massillon Perry, 57-12, in the state semifinals.

The 78th annual OHSAA Individual Wrestling State Tournament will be held at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, March 12-14.
