The Ohio High School Athletic Association annually provides scholarships for outstanding student athletes from its member schools. Each member high school may submit one senior male and one senior female candidate for scholarship consideration. Each member high school may also submit one senior female minority and one senior male minority candidate. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom as well as high school sports.
At the state level, the OHSAA provides forty-eight scholarships across the six OHSAA athletic districts. Thirty-six students receive $1,000 awards – including one student from each of the six OHSAA athletic districts that will receive an Ethnic Minority Scholarship – the remaining scholarships are awarded proportionately according to the number of schools in each athletic district.
In addition to the four scholarships awarded by the Ohio High School Athletic Association the Southeast District Athletic Board (SEDAB) is proud to award an additional twenty-one scholarships to the deserving scholar-athletes in Southeast Ohio. In conjunction with the OHSAA, the SEDAB recently announced the 2018 Scholar-Athlete Scholarship awards at their annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet on June 21, 2018 in Jackson, Ohio.
The OHSAA and SEDAB are pleased to announce the following scholarship winners:
1) Martin Benencia of Athens High School has been awarded the OHSAA Minority Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Martin plans to enroll at Brown Univestiy in the fall and study Economics;
2) Peter Buckley of Athens High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Peter plans to enroll at Haverford College in the fall and study Philosophy;
3) Camryn Chandler of Piketon High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Camryn plans to enroll at Wright State University in the fall and study Nursing;
4) Jessica Cook of Eastern (Reedsville) High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Jessica plans to enroll at Shawnee State University in the fall and study Nursing;
5) Sidney Fick of Nelsonville-York High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Sidney plans to enroll at Ohio University in the fall and study Biology;
6) Cecil Fletcher of Chesapeake High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Cecil plans to enroll at Ohio Wesleyan University in the fall and study Computer Science;
7) Avery Harper of North Adams High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Avery plans to enroll at University of Rio Grande in the fall and study Chemistry;
8) Abby Howard of Alexander High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Abby plans to enroll at The Ohio State University in the fall and study Pre-Medicine;
9) Clayton Howell of Waverly High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Clayton plans to enroll at Shawnee State University in the fall and study Information Technology;
10) Nicholas Kudlapur of Logan High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Nicholas plans to enroll at The Ohio State University in the fall and study Neuroscience;
11) Garrett Maiden of Nelsonville High School has been awarded the SEDAB James Mains Memorial Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Garrett plans to enroll at Ohio University in the fall and study Actuarial Sciences;
12) Matthew Mangus of Fairfield High School has been awarded the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Matthew plans to enroll at Case Western University in the fall and study Chemical Engineering;
13) Keifer Mosmeier of Logan Elm High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Keifer plans to enroll at University of Cincinnati in the fall and study Mechanical Engineering;
14) Michael Norris of Alexander High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Michael plans to enroll at University of Indianapolis in the fall and study Exercise Science or Nursing;
15) Katie Osburn of Belpre High School has been awarded the SEDAB Roger Thompson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Katie plans to enroll at Muskingum University in the fall and study Nursing;
16) Tojzae Reams of Belpre High School has been awarded the SEDAB Minority Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Tojzae plans to enroll at University of Rio Grande in the fall and study Business;
17) Ellie Ruby of Wheelersburg High School has been awarded the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Ellie plans to enroll at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in the fall and study Speech Pathology;
18) Seth Russell of New Lexington High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Seth plans to enroll at Ohio Dominican in the fall and study Physical Therapy;
19) Matthew Seas of Peebles High School has been awarded the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship in the amount of one thousand ($1000). Matthew plans to enroll at Ohio University in the fall and study Chemical Engineering;
20) Alexandria ‘Ali’ Smith of Notre Dame High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Ali plans to enroll at Marshall University in the fall and study Graphic Design;
21) Bailey Sprague of Belpre High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Bailey plans to enroll at Marietta College in the fall and study Health Sciences;
22) Christopher ‘Ty’ Staten of Fairland High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Ty plans to enroll at Ohio Northern University in the fall and study Pharmacy;

25) Brooke Webb of Chesapeake High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500). Brooke plans to enroll at Shawnee State University in the fall and study Exercise Science.
The OHSAA and SEDAB scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically. To be nominated by their high school students must meet the following criteria: must be a graduating senior; have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale; must have taken either the ACT or SAT; must have received a minimum of three varsity letters in one OHSAA sanctioned sport or four varsity letters in a combination of any two or more OHSAA sanctioned sports.
