Division I Girls

Gahanna Lincoln wins first Girls Bowling State Title, Twinsburg’s Elder notches Division I Girls State Championship Record Three-Game Series en route to Individual Crown

 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gahanna Lincoln captured its first girls bowling team state championship, while Twinsburg senior Tyahana Elder bowled the highest three-game series in Division I girls bowling state championship history en route to the individual state title at the 2018 OHSAA Division I girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Saturday. 
 
In its third trip to the girls bowling state tournament all-time, Gahanna Lincoln earned team state champion honors after topping Kettering Fairmont 3-0 (221-218-194 to 157-175-191) in the state final match of the championship round. Gahanna Lincoln earned the number one seed after scoring a 3,389 in the qualifying round, advancing to the state final match by way of a 3-0 victory over eighth-seeded North Canton Hoover in the championship round quarterfinals and a 3-1 win over fourth-seeded Centerville in the semifinals. Fairmont earned its first girls bowling state runner-up finish in its sixth girls bowling state tournament appearance.
 
Twinsburg senior Tyahana Elder earned the Division I girls individual state title after scoring the highest three-game series in Division I girls bowling state tournament history. Elder bowled a 729 (268-213-248), which also ranks in a tie for the second-highest three-game series across all girls bowling state tournament divisions all-time.

Division I Boys

Celina Wins First Boys Bowling State Championship, Vandalia Butler’s Sacks Earns Division I Individual Champion Honors
 

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Celina took home its first boys bowling state championship, while Vandalia Butler junior Drew Sacks was named individual state champion at the 2018 OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl Friday.
 
In its second trip to the boys bowling state tournament all-time, Celina earned its first state title after last qualifying for the tournament in 2008. Earning a four-seed after the qualifying round, Celina used a 3-1 win over Beavercreek in the first match of the championship round and a 3-0 victory over Wadsworth in the semifinals to advance before topping Stow-Munroe Falls in the state final match, 3-1. Stow-Munroe Falls was making its second trip in the last three years to the boys bowling state tournament, taking home state runner-up honors for the first time.
 
Butler’s Sacks used a three-game series of 690 (265-211-214) to become the Division I boys individual state champion. Earning the state runner-up award was Bellefontaine senior Daniel Weikart, who finished with a 679 (236-210-233).
 
The 2018 OHSAA bowling state tournaments conclude on Saturday with Division I girls taking to the lanes at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Division II Girls

Fairport Harbor Fairport Harding Brings Home First Division II Girls Bowling State Championship, Lima Bath’s Twining Wins Individual Title
 

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fairport Harbor Fairport Harding used a 3-1 win over defending state champion Coldwater in the OHSAA Division II girls bowling championship round final to capture team state champion honors at the 2018 OHSAA Division II girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl Saturday.
 
In its third trip to the girls bowling state tournament, Fairport Harding took home a state crown after qualifying for the championship round as a six-seed, defeating the top three seeds en route to its first girls bowling state title. Fairport Harding used a 3-1 win over third-seeded St. Marys Memorial in the championship round quarterfinals and 3-0 victory over second-seeded Bryan to advance to the final. Coldwater earned state runner-up honors for the second time in school history and has qualified for the girls bowling state tournament for seven-straight seasons, earning four state championships along the way.
 
Lima Bath senior Bryana Twining used the fourth-highest three-game series in Division II girls bowling state tournament history to capture the individual state championship, scoring a 684 (216-245-223) to bring home a state crown. Cincinnati Seven Hills senior Audrey Wilson garnered individual state runner-up honors with a 629 (180-203-246), the ninth-highest three-game series in Division II girls bowling state tournament history.
 
The 2018 OHSAA bowling state tournaments continue next weekend, with Division I boys taking to the lanes on Friday, March 9, and Division I girls on Saturday, March 10.

Division II Boys

Mechanicsburg Earns First Division II Boys Bowling State Championship, Cortland Lakeview’s Dunn Captures Individual State Crown

 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mechanicsburg took home its first boys bowling state title, while Cortland Lakeview junior Seth Dunn earned individual state champion honors at the 2018 OHSAA Division II boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Friday.
 
Earning a 3-0 win in the state final match of the team championship round, Mechanicsburg used scores of 190-180-211 to top state runner-up Plain City Jonathan Alder, which bowled scores of 129-161-161 in the state final. Mechanicsburg entered the championship round as the five-seed, but topped Cortland Lakeview 3-2 (168-203-120-172-163 to 198-159-162-156-139) in the championship round quarterfinal and earned a 3-1 win over top-seeded St. Henry in the semifinal, 3-1 (166-191-213-254 to 186-143-194-162). Jonathan Alder was making its sixth appearance at the bowling state tournament and earned its first state runner-up trophy.
 
Lakeview’s Dunn bowled a three-game series of 703 (277-211-215) to take individual champion honors, the fifth-highest three-game score in Division II boys bowling state tournament history. Mechanicsburg senior Caleb Westfall finished with a 681 (257-180-244) to earn state runner-up honors.
