Boys Division I
Beavercreek Capture Second State Title; Beavercreek Junior Carson Shroyer Wins Individual Title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Beavercreek captured its second bowling state title by defeating Kettering Fairmont 3-2 in the championship match of the 2023 Division I boys state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Friday. In the championship match, the Beavers defeated the Firebirds (211-194-179-225-217 to 225-179-196-168-182).
 
In its ninth state tournament appearance, Beavercreek entered the eight-team bracket as the third seed. The Beavers went 9-2 over the course of the championship run, knocking out Macedonia Nordonia in quarterfinal round 3-0 (235-253-216 to 225-221-156) and defeating Mason in the semifinal round 3-0 (246-194-223 to 200-177-192) to reach their second state final. Kettering Fairmont reached the state tournament for the 10th time, this being their third time obtaining runner-up honors.
 
Beavercreek junior Carson Shroyer captured the individual state title with a total score of 707 (233-245-229). Plain City Jonathon Alder sophomore Drew Damron gained runner-up honors with a total score of 705 (204-255-246).
 
Girls Division I
Macedonia Nordonia Captures First State Title; Fairmont Sophomore Danica Roseberry Win Individual Title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Macedonia Nordonia captured its first ever state title by defeating Kettering Fairmont 3-0 in the finals of the 2023 Division I girls state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Friday. In the championship match, the Knights defeated the Firebirds 173-214-191 to 152-197-168.
In its first ever trip to the state tournament, Macedonia Nordonia entered the eight-team bracket as the sixth seed. The Knights went 9-3 over the course of the championship run, knocking out Massillon Perry in the quarterfinal round 3-2 (187-163-213-183-161 to 141-193-140-194-156) and defeating Plain City Jonathan Alder in the semifinal round 3-1 (221-193-148-194 to 193-204-137-174) to reach their first ever state final. Kettering Fairmont reached the state tournament for the seventh time, this being their second time obtaining runner-up honors.
Kettering Fairmont sophomore Danica Roseberry captured the individual state title with a total score of 661 (183-227-251). Junior Aiyana Godwin of Troy rolled one pin less to gain runner-up honors with a total score of 660 (190-265-205).
 
 
Girls Division II
Conotton Valley Takes Home First Bowling State Championship; Napoleon freshman Arianna Kiessling wins individual title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Bowerston Conotton Valley took a 3-2 win over Sandusky Perkins in the final round of the OHSAA Division II girls bowling state tournament Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl to bring home the school’s first bowling state title.
 
In its first state tournament appearance, Conotton Valley trailed 2-0 in its state semifinal match and in the state final match, but came all the way in both matches to advance and win the state title.  
 
After the qualifying rounds, Conotton Valley entered the bracket as the number three seed. Conotton Valley topped six-seed St. Marys Memorial, two-seed Carrollton, and finally eight-seed Sandusky Perkins in the state final.  
 
Napoleon freshman Arianna Kiessling used the fifth-highest three-game series in Division II girls bowling state tournament history to capture the individual state championship, scoring a 674 (238-231-205). Wooster Triway junior Addy Meshew garnered individual state runner-up honors with a 663 (259-166-238), the seventh-highest three-game series in Division II girls bowling state tournament history.
 
Boys Division II
DeGraff Riverside Wins First Bowling State Championship; Graham Local senior Spencer Hannahs wins individual title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — DeGraff Riverside took a 3-1 win over Coldwater in the final round of the OHSAA Division II boys bowling state tournament Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl to bring home the school’s first bowling state title.
 
In its first state tournament appearance, Riverside entered the bracket portion of the state tournament as the seven-seed, but came out strong, defeating the two-seed Liberty Center 3-0. Riverside proceeded to defeat Lutheran West 3-1 in the state semifinal to advance to the state final against Coldwater, where a +114 pin overall differential led to the 3-1 win and state title.
 
Graham Local senior Spencer Hannahs used the fourth-highest three-game series in Division II boys bowling state tournament history to capture the individual state championship, scoring a 729 (212-248-269). Clinton-Massie sophomore Mason Keck garnered individual state runner-up honors with a 677 (224-255-198) three-game series.
