Shaker Heights 3, Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 1
WORTHINGTON, Ohio – In its 17th season making it to the state semifinals, Shaker Heights defeated Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 3-1 after serving a second half shutout in the first semifinal game hosted by Thomas Worthington High School on October 31st.
Shaker Heights will make its 11th appearance in the OHSAA Field Hockey Championship with a 15-5-2 record. The Raiders won the state championship in 2014 and 1991. Shaker Heights will face the winner of the second semifinal game between Thomas Worthington and Upper Arlington.
Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame finished with a record of 15-5-0, making its 11th semifinal appearance.
5:18 into the game, Shaker Heights’ sophomore midfielder, Nina Yacovone scored to take a quick 1-0 lead. Mount Notre Dame responded in the second quarter at the 26:47 mark with an equalizing goal from senior midfielder, Kathleen Jennings. Shaker Heights scored twice more, once in both the third (36:15) and fourth (50:50) quarters. Each goal was shot by junior forward, Eleanor Miller. The final goal was off a penalty corner
Shaker Heights’ Carlie Sokal earned the win in goal while saving one of two shots on goal. Mount Notre Dame’s goalkeeper, Josie Broenner, recorded three saves.

WORTHINGTON, Ohio – In its 19th year (fourth-consecutive) of making it to the state semifinals, Worthington Thomas Worthington shuts the door in a 2-0 win over Upper Arlington in the second semifinal game hosted by Thomas Worthington High School on October 31st.
Thomas Worthington will make its 12th appearance in the OHSAA Field Hockey Championship with a record of 16-5-1, set to face Shaker Heights. The Cardinals have previously won eight championships in the 1988, 2007, 2011, 2015-17, and 2022-23 seasons.
Upper Arlington finished with a 20-2 record, making its second state semifinal appearance. The Golden Bears made its other appearance in 1990.
After a quiet first quarter, the first score came from Thomas Worthington’s sophomore forward, Peyton Frost with 37 seconds left in the first half. Senior forward Taylor Charnes was credited with the assist. Thomas Worthington scored again in the fourth quarter at 50:20 after junior forward Sophia Borghese found the back of the goal. Sophomore midfielder Macy Morgan and junior Jaidyn Gussler were each credited with an assist.
The sophomore goalkeeper for Thomas Worthington, Mae Conroy earned the win after not allowing a goal. Upper Arlington’s senior goalkeeper, Elise Scheiber recorded two saves.
Thomas Worthington outshot Upper Arlington 6-2 and edged out Upper Arlington in corners 5-4.

WORTHINGTON, Ohio – After scoring less than two minutes into the game, Worthington Thomas Worthington never looked back and won its third-consecutive state championship, ninth overall at Thomas Worthington High School on November 2nd.
Thomas Worthington (17-5-1) has made the championship game for the fourth-consecutive season, winning in 2023 and 2022 and earning runners-up in 2021.
Shaker Heights, finishing with a record of 15-6-2, made the state championship game for the first time in five years and 11th time overall. Previously, Shaker Heights won championships in 2014 and 1991.
At 1:28 into the game, Thomas Worthington’s junior forward, Sophia Borghese, had an unassisted score to give Thomas Worthington an early 1-0 lead. In the second quarter, senior forward Casey Rowan put the Cardinals up 2-0 at 19:10 on an unassisted goal. Junior Jaidyn Gussler scored at the 33:23 mark for Thomas Worthington to extend its lead 3-0 over Shaker Heights. A junior forward for Thomas Worthington, Meredith Estepp, scored in the 4th quarter at the 48:30 mark, increasing Worthington’s lead to 4-0. Thomas Worthington scored once more at the 50:20 mark to make the final score 5-0. Senior forward Rowan Casey is responsible for the score.
Mae Conroy earned the win in goal for Thomas Worthington. The sophomore played 57 minutes without allowing a goal.
Shaker Height’s sophomore goalkeeper, Carlie Sokal, played the full 60 minutes and recorded 6 saves.
