Division I

Dublin Jerome Tops Cincinnati St. Xavier in Division I State Championship Game

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dublin Jerome secured its second OHSAA Division I boys lacrosse state championship at Historic Crew Stadium Saturday June, 3 after a 12-10 victory over Cincinnati St. Xavier.

Jerome senior Marek Tzagournis provided a strong performance by leading the team with five goals. It was a close, back and forth game with a score differential of no more than two and a different team leading at the end of each period.

Jerome (final record: 22-1) led in key statistical categories including shots (46 to 34), ground balls (31 to 29), and were perfect in clears (21-for-21). Additionally, the Celtics only committed 10 turnovers compared to St. Xavier’s 20 turnovers. Junior goalie Cory Lorentzen collected a win while registering seven saves out of 17 total shot attempts.

In St. Xavier’s (final record: 19-6) fifth state tournament appearance, Brady Bennett (junior) led the Bombers with three goals. Sophomore goalie, Trent Yelton had the highest save percentage (54 percent, 14-for-26) between both teams.

 

Division II

Olmsted Falls Claims First OHSAA State Championship after Defeating Columbus St. Francis DeSales

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After trailing 4-3 in at the end of the first period, Olmsted Falls rallied and outscored Columbus St. Francis 10-5 the rest of the game on their way to a 13-9 win (add date). This was Olmsted Falls’ first OHSAA state tournament appearance.

Olmsted Falls (final record: 21-1) senior Michael Candow scored five goals, which led the team. Senior goalie Colton Strunk saved 50 percent of the shots that came his way (9-for-18). Seniors Rocco Conti, Alec Ignazio, and Gavin Moore, along with sophomore Dominic Fusco each scored two goals. The Bulldogs led in statistical categories compared to DeSales including shots (39 to 30) and ground balls (28 to 25)

DeSales (final record: 20-2), which won state titles in 2022 and 2018, was making its fourth state tournament appearance. Ty Hampton, a junior for the Stallions, scored three goals and sophomore teammate Bruce Herrick was responsible for three of the team’s five assists.
