State Championship Game Recaps

Girls Division V State Championship
Cincinnati Madeira 3, Doylestown Chippewa 0 
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Natasha Davis scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Cincinnati Madeira to a 3-0 win over Doylestown Chippewa in the Division V girls state championship match at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
Madeira (20-1-2 overall) claimed its second girls soccer state title in school history and first since 2010. Chippewa (21-2-0) finished runner-up for the third time (2005, 2015).
 
Davis opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Her initial shot from inside the box was saved by Chippewa goalkeeper Madison Breeden, but Davis corralled the rebound and scored.
 
Madeira then scored twice in quick succession to build a 3-0 lead. In the 27th minute, Macy Mueller carried the ball into the box and chipped a cross that Davis one-timed into the net. Just 30 seconds later, Vivian Momper scored into an open net for Madeira’s third goal. 
 
Madeira goalkeeper Makayla Davenport made one save to keep the clean sheet. Madison Breeden and Isabella Adams combined to stop 10 shots for Chippewa.
 
Madeira held a 23-2 edge in total shots and 9-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Girls Division IV State Championship
Cincinnati Summit Country Day 3, Ottawa-Glandorf 0
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cincinnati Summit Country Day is a back-to-back state champion after defeating Ottawa-Glandorf, 3-0, in the Division IV girls state final at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
Summit Country Day’s title is its fifth overall, making it just the third school (Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit - 11, Strongsville - 5) with at least that many girls soccer state championships. Summit Country Day's previous titles came in 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2023.
 
Ottawa-Glandorf (20-3-0) finished runner-up for the fourth consecutive season and fifth time overall in five state championship game appearances. O-G became the 12th different school--and first since Kirtland from 2017-20--to play in four consecutive girls soccer state tournaments.
 
An own goal opened the scoring in the 39th minute. Abigayle Penote’s shot rattled the crossbar, then deflected off the back of an Ottawa-Glandorf player and into the net.
 
Summit Country Day (22-1-1) then scored twice a little more than 10 minutes apart in the second half. Carolyn Federle scored an unassisted goal on a shot from the top of the box in the 45th minute, and Alex Gardner nodded home Emma Gibson’s corner kick in the 56th minute.
 
Maddie Mescher made two saves, both in the second half, to preserve the shutout for Summit Country Day; it was the team’s 18th shutout in 24 matches this season.
 
Summit Country Day out-shot Ottawa-Glandorf 22-6 and had seven corner kicks to Ottawa-Glandorf's five.

Girls Division III State Championship
Bay Village Scores In Final Seconds to Win Division III Title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Maya Holmes scored with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to lead Bay Village over Medina Highland, 1-0, in the OHSAA girls soccer Division III state championship match Saturday at Historic Crew Stadium. 
 
Bay (22-0-2 overall) claimed its fourth girls soccer state title in school history and first since 2003. Highland (21-1-2 overall) finished runner-up in their first time in the state finals. 
 
Holmes was assisted by sophomore Tessa Knapp, who brought the ball into scoring range and delivered it to Holmes for a close range shot. 
Bay’s senior goalkeeper Riley Mitchell had a total of three saves while Highland’s junior goalkeeper Hailey Trzaska had two.

Girls Division II State Championship
Columbus Bishop Watterson Tops North Royalton on Penalty Kicks for Title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - On penalty kicks Columbus Bishop Watterson claimed its first state title after defeating North Royalton in the Division II girls state final at Historic Crew Stadium on Saturday in penalty kicks. 
 
Bishop Watterson (20-2-0 overall) has been in the state semifinals three times.
 
Bishop Watterson scored in regulation first when freshman Sophie Scott shot the ball from the top of the penalty arc which soared into the top of the goal at the fifteenth minute of play, putting the Eagles in the lead 1-0. 
 
In the seventy-third minute of play North Royalton’s senior Sophia Antonio shot the ball into the corner of the net to tie the match, 1-1. 
After neither team scored in both overtime sessions, the match went to penalty kicks, which Bishop Watterson won 3-0. Bishop Watterson junior goalkeeper Suzie Roginski had two saves during penalty kicks. 
 
Bishop Watterson’s first attempt by junior Sasha Smith shot the ball into the top right of the net. Their second attempt by junior Emma Miller was shot into top right of the net as well.
 
The third shootout attempt by Bishop Watterson was made by senior Megan Goehring at the bottom right of the net.
When North Royalton’s third penalty kick was missed it ended the match in favor of Bishop Watterson.

Girls Division I State Championship
Springboro Claims Its First State Title After Defeating Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit in Penalty Kicks
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, Springboro bests Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit 4-2 in penalty kicks to win its first OHSAA Girls Soccer State Championship at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
This was only the second time that Springboro made the semifinal and final rounds, with the other time coming in 2016. Springboro caps off the 2024 season with a 21-1-1 record.
 
Springboro’s Morgan DeMoss had two shots on goal. Tessa Blain had three shots, but only one was on goal. Poppy Wakefield took two shots, but neither were on goal. Ellie Ulrich took one shot on goal. Goalkeeper, Susan Schaaf recorded 11 saves.
 
Walsh Jesuit (21-1-0) had its 19th appearance in the state semifinals this year and finished as the state runner-up for the second time overall, having the first in 2021. Previously, Walsh claimed 11 state titles in total with the most recent happening in 2023.
 
Walsh Jesuit’s Reagan Pentz attempted 10 shots with five being on goal, which were both team leading. Hannah Pachan’s three shot attempts were all on goal. Abby Witkiewicz had five shots, with only one being on goal. Both Francesca Villa and Lauren Ziemianski each had one shot on goal. Goalkeeper, Ava DeBolt tallied four saves.
 
Walsh outshot Springboro 20-8 and 11-4 with shots on goal. Springboro led in corner kicks with 10-6. Each team only committed one offsides. Only one yellow card was given out, which went to Springboro.
 
Walsh’s Hannah Pachan made the first penalty kick, which was answered with a make from Springboro’s Tessa Blain.
 
The second round ended with Walsh’s Lauren Ziemianski missing her shot and Sarah Beachy finding the net for Springboro.
 
Abby Witkiewicz from Walsh Jesuit and Morgan DeMoss from Springboro each make the third-round shot.
 
With Walsh’s miss from Audrey Amsden and a make from Springboro’s Keira Buckholtz, Springboro won in penalty kicks 4-2.
 

Boys Division III State Championship
Cincinnati Indian Hill 1, Twinsburg 0
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Cincinnati Indian Hill claimed its first state title in school history after defeating Twinsburg 1-0 in the 2024 OHSAA Boys Division III State Championship game at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
This was Indian Hill’s fifth appearance in the state semifinals. The previous occurred in 1985, 86, 87 and 2013. Indian Hill made its third appearance in the state championship as well with the other two occurring in the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
 
Twinsburg (21-3-0) finished runner-up in its first state championship game appearance. This also was Twinsburg’s first time making it to the state semifinals round.
 
Indian Hill midfielder, Max Grebe, delivered a strike in the 47th minute to put the Braves up 1-0 over Twinsburg. Forward, Aiden Farber was given credit with the assist. Grebe took three shots, all being on goal. Farber took five shots with one being on goal. Connor Wilkes led the team with seven shots, six being on goal. Ernesto Rodriquez-Cayro, Liam Brady, Mac Cantwell, Brady Evans and Zohaib Kalloo all had taken one shot. Brady’s was the only shot that was on goal. Goalkeeper Alex Swallow played a full 80 minutes, having zero saves and zero goals allowed.
 
Twinsburg’s Ryan Humberson, Lucas Elias, Devin Couch and Evan Schneeman each took two shots. Nate Grant, Mario Sanders and Keelin Fuentes all took one shot. Goalkeeper Cooper Goodman played a full 80 minutes while racking up 10 saves.
 
Indian Hill outshot Twinsburg 20-11 and had 11 shots on goal compared to Twinsburg’s zero. Indian Hill had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 

Boys Division I State Championship
St. Ignatius Wins 14th State Title with Last Second Goal 
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cleveland St. Ignatius junior Bryce Ince-Lovelace scored with one second remaining in the second overtime period to lift the Wildcats to the 2024 OHSAA boys soccer Division I state championship over Columbus St. Charles Sunday at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
St. Ignatius (16-4-2 overall) claimed its 14th boys soccer state title in history, and its sixth title in a row since 2019. Columbus St. Charles (14-3-5 overall) finished runner-up for the fifth time to go along with two state titles.
 
Ince-Lovelace was assisted by junior Domenic Ruggerio on the wining goal. Ruggerio brought the ball into scoring range and delivered it to Ince-Lovelace for a shot from close range in the top right corner of the goal. 
 
St. Ignatius senior goalkeeper John Speelman had a total of three saves while St Charles senior goalkeeper Aiden Rice had eight.
 

 

Boys Division II State Championship
New Albany Claims First State Title, Defeating Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit on Penalty Kicks
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, New Albany (19-1-0) claimed its first state title in school history scoring 5-3 on penalty kicks over Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit (17-3-2) Sunday in the Division II boys soccer state championship game at Historic Crew Stadium. 
 
This was New Albany’s fourth appearance in the state tournament (2001, 2020, and 2022), and finished as state runner-up twice. Walsh Jesuit was in the state tournament for the eleventh and now has six runner-up finishes to go along with three state titles. 
 
After a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, the penalty kick shootout ended when New Albany senior Adam Hoy made the final kick at the bottom right of the net to set the score 5-3, and claiming their first state title in program history. 
 
New Albany senior goalkeeper Wyatt Butler saved the first shot in PKs, setting up New Albany to win when the Eagles made all five of their PKs. 
 
Walsh Jesuit junior Freddie Marcell had six shots and four shots on goal. New Albany senior Matt Boyd had four shots all on goal.
Walsh outshot New Albany 21-13 and 11-9 with shots on goal. New Albany led saves 11-9, Walsh Jesuit lead corner kicks 6-5.
 
At the end of regulation, New Albany goalie, senior Wyatt Butler, saved back-to-back shots to keep the game alive.
 

Boys Division V State Championship
Summit Country Day Claims Ninth State Title
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - After a scoreless first half, Summit Country Day (14-4-5 overall) claimed its ninth state title in school history with a 1-0 victory over Minford (19-3-1 overall) Monday in the Division V boys soccer state championship game at Historic Crew Stadium.
 
This was Summit Country Day’s ninth appearance in the state tournament (1999, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), and they improved to 9-0 in state championship games. This was Minford’s first appearance in the state tournament in school history. 
 
After a scoreless first half, Summit Country Day senior Brenden Hamilton scored at the 49th minute of play to put the Silver Knights up 1-0 over Minford. Hamilton was assisted by senior Jackson Grant who brought the ball into scoring range and delivered it to Hamilton for a shot to the bottom left of the goal.
 
Summit Country Day out shot Minford 31-6 and had seven corner kicks to Minford’s one.

 


 

Boys Division IV State Championship
River View Wins First State Title in First State Tournament Appearance
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Hayden Walters led Warsaw River View to its first state title defeating Worthington Christian 1-0 in double overtime on Monday night to win the Boys Soccer Division IV State Championship.
 
This was River View’s first state appearance and finished their season 21-1-2 overall. Worthington Christian (18-4-1) made its 14th state appearance and third time state runner-up to go along with three state titles.
 
With three minutes remaining in double overtime, River View senior Cael Summers drove into the scoring area and passed to Hayden Walters to shoot to the left side of the goal and win the game.
 
River View junior goal keeper Layton Massie saved 13 shots, and Worthington Christian junior goal keeper Cody Thomas had six saves.
 
Worthington Christian senior Eli Funderburke had eight shots and three shots on goal. Junior Max Glick had five shots and two shots on goal. Worthington freshman Nolan Schoonover and junior Ethan Carrel both had four shots.
 
Worthington Christian outshot River View 32-12 and had fourteen shots on goals compared to River View’s seven. Worthington Christian had seven corner kicks and River View had two.
