State Tournament Recaps

Division I
In 10 Innings, Unranked Louisville Tops No. 2 Liberty Township Lakota East 14-10 for First State Title
AKRON, Ohio – Louisville scored three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and take it to extra innings, scoring four more runs in the 10th inning to defeat Liberty Township Lakota East 14-10, in the OHSAA Division I softball state championship game Sunday at Firestone Stadium. The game began Saturday but was postponed in the sixth inning due to weather.
 
The Leopards (30-2) were led by junior Alex Fankhouser with one homerun, one base on balls, two hits and two RBI, senior Kaycee Ollis with two runs and three hits, and junior Sydney McKeever with two runs and two hits. Seniors Sarah Cantley, Justina Sirohman and Shae Thomas each had homeruns.
 
Thunderhawks junior Abby Niehaus had three hits, while freshman Vanessa Sims and senior Cali Hoffman drove in two runs.
 
Lakota East (27-4) made its second state tournament appearance and took home its first state runner-up trophy.
 
Louisville and Lakota East broke the state tournament record for most combined hits in a game with a total of 33 and tied the record for most combined runs in a game with 24.
 
Louisville was making its first state tournament appearance, taking home its first state title.
 
Division II
Plan City Jonathan Alder defeats Hebron Lakewood, 4-2, to Take Home First State Title
AKRON, Ohio – No. 3 Plain City Jonathan Alder topped No. 9 Hebron Lakewood, 4-2, Saturday in the OHSAA Division II softball state championship game at Firestone Stadium.
 
Jonathan Alder (29-1) scored the first three runs of the game in the first inning, adding another run in the third.
 
Junior Lindsey Potter led the Pioneers with one run and three hits with juniors Emily Walker and Jillian Jaske, both having one run and two hits.
 
The Pioneers pitcher, freshman Marlee Jacobs, had four strikeouts and only allowed three hits.
 
Junior Kylah Morrison led Lakewood (27-5) with one run and one hit and sophomore Keelie Davis with one run.
 
Lakewood made its eighth state tournament appearance and took home its third runner-up trophy. The Lancers also have five state titles.
 
Alder made its fourth state tournament appearance, claiming its first state title.
 
Division III
No. 1 Warren Champion Claims Third Straight Championship
AKRON, Ohio – In a rematch of their 2018 state title game encounter, No. 1 Warren Champion defeated No. 3 Cardington-Lincoln, capturing a 5-0 victory Saturday in the Division III state softball championship game at Firestone Stadium.
 
The two teams had strong defense, remaining scoreless until the top of sixth inning when Warren Champion (30-2) scored three runs to take the lead. The Golden Flashes scored two more runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Champion junior Allison Smith allowed three hits, striking out 10 and walking one while in the circle. Smith also had one run and two hits. Aiding in the five total runs were sophomore Cassidy Shaffer with two homeruns and junior Abbi Grace having two runs and three hits.
 
Junior Casey Bertke only allowed one walk facing 31 batters for Cardington-Lincoln (25-5).
 
The Pirates made their third state tournament appearance and took home their second runner-up trophy.
 
Champion tied the record for most consecutive state softball championships with three.
 
Champion made its 11th state tournament appearance, claiming its ninth state title. 
 
Division IV
Unranked Antwerp defeats No. 4 Mechanicsburg For First Title
AKRON, Ohio – In their first trip to the OHSAA softball state tournament, the Archers of Antwerp took home their first Division IV state championship trophy with a 5-0 win over Mechanicsburg Sunday at Firestone Stadium. The game was scheduled to begin Saturday evening but was postponed due to weather.
 
Antwerp (22-2) junior Lauren Schuller kept Mechanicsburg (21-4) from scoring, having 15 strikeouts and only allowing three hits. The Archers were able to score the first runs of the game in the fifth inning. Scoring those runs were freshmen Lauren Schuller, Ali Reinhart, Shaelin McCrea, Kennedy Trabel and junior Tiera Gomez.
 
Junior pitcher Carlie Hanes tied the record for most strikeouts by a pitcher in a game with 15.
 
Freshman Daytayviah Rodgers and junior Francys King had a combined five strikeouts for the Indians.
 
Mechanicsburg made its first trip to the state tournament and took home its first state runner-up trophy.
