Upper Arlington Claims 14th Swimming and Diving Title
CANTON, Ohio – The Upper Arlington girls swimming and diving team won its 14th state title in school history at the 2025 OHSAA Swimming and Diving State Tournament on Saturday night at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Upper Arlington won three events and placed in the top three a total of seven times. Upper Arlington led to a total of 263.5 points. Runner-up, Mason, earned 195 points.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Upper Arlington junior Aston Mumaw, sophomore Riley Hollingsworth, freshman Kiera Powers, and senior Hayden Hollingsworth placed first with a time of 1:33.98, 1.4 seconds before Cincinnati Ursuline Academy (1:35.38). Upper Arlington also placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, led by juniors Abby Oliphant and Elise Schantz, senior Hayden Hollingsworth, and sophomore Maren Berg (1:41.72).
In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Hayden Hollingsworth placed first with a time of 22.75. Following Hollingsworth was Massillon Perry’s senior Sophie Baker (23.30) and Upper Arlington’s sophomore Maren Berg (23.38).
Mason placed in the top three a total of seven times. In the 200-yard freestyle relay junior Isabella Teply placed first with a time of 1:48.75. Teply also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.80.
Kings Mills Kings junior Maya Schweikert broke the state record in the 100-yard backstroke. Schweikert swam 52.87, the previous record was 52.92. Schweikert also received the 2025 Girls Division I Performer of the Meet Award.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights junior Rachel Kirin won the 1-meter diving with a score of 426.75. Pickerington North senior Sofia Frangos was the runner-up with 423.55 points.
Boys Division I
Columbus St. Charles Claims Second Swimming and Diving State Title in the Last Event by One Point
CANTON, Ohio – In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Columbus St. Charles senior Andrew Zarick and juniors Alex Wu, Brad King and Austin Carpenter placed first with a time of 2:59.97, just 40 seconds before Cincinnati St. Xavier. Junior Austin Carpenter closed the win for St. Charles at the last second. This resulted in St. Charles acquiring the lead, winning the meet by one point.
St. Charles won its second OHSAA Swimming and Diving State Championship on Saturday night at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. St. Charles won four events and placed in the top three a total of eight times. St. Charles totaled 311 points, with runner-up St. Xavier one point behind (310).
St. Charles senior Andrew Zarick and juniors Jake Lloyd, Alex Wu and Brand King placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.08, before St. Xavier. St. Charles junior Austin Carpenter (43.21) and junior Jake Lloyd (44.83) placed first and second in the 100-yard freestyle, respectively, followed by St. Xavier senior Jaeger Ellerman (44.97) in third.
St. Xavier placed in the top three a total of eight times. St. Xavier junior Chase Grisi placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.89).
Cincinnati Turpin senior Hayden Meyers received the Division I boys Performer of the Meet Award. Meyers placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.51) and in the 100-yard backstroke (47.37).
Solon junior Mitch Caldwell won the 1-meter diving with a score of 544.15. Perrysburg’s junior Trevor Madigan was the runner up after scoring 231.15.
Girls Division II
Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown Claims Third-Consecutive Swimming and Diving State Title
CANTON, Ohio – Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown won their third-consecutive OHSAA Swimming and Diving State Championship on Friday at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Hathaway Brown won four events and placed in the top three a total of nine times. Hathaway Brown totaled 331 points, while runner-up, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, earned 227 points.
In the 200-yard medley relay Hathaway Brown sophomore Josephine Piliang, freshman Catherine Dorsey and juniors Sofia Jimenez and Oma Agwa placed first with a time of 1:42.51, 3.44 seconds before Cincinnati Hills Christian (1:45.95). Hathaway Brown also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay led by Agwa, freshman Rachel Porter, senior Beatrice Stewart and Jimenez (1:36.02).
Hathaway Brown’s Stewart (4:53.60) and sophomore Charlotte Duijser (4:58.58) placed first and second in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively.
Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy won four events and placed in the top three a total of six times. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay led by seniors Taylor Bacher and Julia Shafer, freshmen Posey Sollmann and Sophia Fink (3:28.38). Senior Julia Shafer placed first in two events: the 100-yard freestyle (50.77) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.71).
Grandview Heights senior Carrie Furbee broke the state record for the 100-yard butterfly with a 53.36. The previous record was 53.43. Furbee also received the Girls Division II Performer of the Meet Award.
Napoleon junior Ella Borstelman won the 1-meter diving with a score of 431.75. Liberty Center junior Joy Brown was the runner up after scoring 411.00.
Boys Division II
Hunting Valley University School Claims Fourth-Consecutive Swimming and Diving State Title
CANTON, Ohio – Hunting Valley University School won their 10th Swimming and Diving State Title Friday night at C.T. Branin Natatorium. University placed first once and was in the top three a total of three times. University School scored 231 points. Runner-up, Hamilton Ross, earned 172 points.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay University School seniors Quinn MacPhail, Brad Perry and Alex Pesek, along with junior Paul Moody, placed third with a time of 3:11.86. University School seniors Alex Pesek and Brad Perry, sophomore Aiden Stewart and junior Paul Moody also placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.61).
University School senior Quinn MacPhail won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.85. University School sophomore Jake MacPhail placed fourth in the same event (4:37.18).
Hamiton Ross placed first in six events. Senior Connor Bennett won the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.32) and the 100-yeard breaststroke (55.61). Senior Cooper Burt won the 100-yeard butterfly with a time of 47.72. Burt won 100-yard backstroke (48.28), breaking the previous record by 0.01 seconds.
Vincent Warren senior Mason Francis broke the state record for the 100-yard freestyle. Francis swam 43.55. The previous record was 43.75. Francis also received the Boys Division II Performer of the Meet Award.
Bexley junior Jackson Monus won the 1-meter diving with a score of 444.55. Bay Village Bay junior Charlie Vatolin was the runner up after scoring 403.20
