DI Recap
Gahanna Lincoln’s Brandon Carpico won his second state singles title in his third trip to the state championship match at the 2023 state tournament at Ohio State University’s Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

Carpico defeated Pickerington North’s Pavan Uppu, 6-2, 6-1, in the singles final to join a list of 29 other two-time state singles champions. Carpico had previously won the Division I singles title in 2021 and finished runner-up in 2022.

In doubles, Cincinnati St. Xavier’s Carson Dwyer and Drew Evans defeated Cincinnati Sycamore’s Arjun Rajagopala and Andrew Wittenbaum, 7-5, 6-2, to win the school’s fifth doubles state title. St. Xavier is the 10th school with at least five doubles state championships.

DII Recap
For the second time in school history, Pepper Pike Orange is home to the boys tennis singles and doubles state champions in the same season.

Ben Pomeranets won his second straight singles title at the 2023 state tournament, while the tandem of Chika Nwaozuzu and Gabi Kalir claimed the doubles title.

Pomeranets was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Avi Mahajan (Cincinnati Seven Hills) in the singles final. He is the first repeat singles champion since Massillon Jackson’s Joey Thomas won back-to-back Division I titles in 2015 and 2016. Orange’s six singles titles all-time are tied for the third-most in state history.

Nwaozuzu and Kalir defeated Dayton Oakwood’s Arick Baldwin and Noah Boyce, 6-1, 6-1, in the doubles final to claim the third doubles state title in school history.

It was the 23rd time, and second year in a row, that one school won both the singles and doubles championships. Mason swept the Division I titles in 2022. Orange last accomplished the feat in 1985, when Mark Rothchild won the Class AA singles title and John Hertzer and Larry Marks won doubles.
