MASON, Ohio — The 42nd annual OHSAA Girls Tennis State Tournament concluded Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
Division I
In the Division I singles final, junior Anna Roggenburk of Rocky River Magnificat defeated sophomore Cassie Alcala of Pickerington North, 6-0, 6-0. Roggenburk, a three-time state qualifier, was runner-up in 2016 and is the first girls tennis state champion in Magnificat school history.
Junior Zoey Weil of Columbus Centennial won third place for the second straight year. Weil, also a three-time state qualifier, defeated sophomore Ananya Aggarwal of Mason, 6-0, 6-1.
In the Division I doubles final, freshmen Maddie Atway and Danielle Schoenly of Powell Olentangy Liberty defeated freshman Nina Dhaliwal and senior Gabriella O’Connor of Cincinnati Ursuline Academy, 6-1, 7-6 (6). Atway and Schoenly are the first girls tennis state champions in Olentangy Liberty school history.
Senior Alexandra Vesikallio and sophomore Olivia Rondini of Rocky River Magnificat defeated juniors Demi Jhaveri and Ashley Michelich of Westlake, 6-1, 6-0, in the Division I doubles third place match.
Division II
The Division II girls tennis state tournament was once again dominated by powerhouse program, Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown.
Sophomore Nicole Gillinov continued the family dynasty, defeating freshman Sydni Ratliff of Columbus Academy, 6-2, 6-4, in the Division II singles state final. Gillinov was runner-up in 2016 to older sister and three-time state champion, Lauren. This is the fourth-straight year a Gillinov has won the Division II singles state title.
Hathaway Brown junior and three-time state qualifier Maddie Lynch defeated freshman Elizabeth Fahrmeier of Cincinnati Summit Country Day, 6-4, 6-2, in the Division II singles third place match.
In the Division II doubles state final, it was a battle of Shaker Heights schools, as sophomore Isabella Godsick and junior Megan Qiang of Hathaway Brown defeated sophomore Rachel Buchinsky and Priya Khadilkar of Laurel, 7-5, 6-3. It is the second-straight year a doubles team from Hathaway Brown has won the Division II crown.
The Hirsch sisters from Cincinnati Indian Hill repeated as third-place winners in Division II doubles. Senior Gracey and sophomore Hayley defeated juniors Isabella Daverio and Rebecca Wolf of Hathaway Brown, 6-4, 7-5.
