Vikings Defend State Title In Overtime
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � In overtime, Gahanna Columbus Academy
senior Brie Stahl scored the game-winning goal to give the Vikings a 1-0
win over Thomas Worthington Saturday in the 2013 OHSAA field hockey
state championship game at Upper Arlington High School.
The state title is the 10th for Columbus
Academy (18-2-1), which has been a state participant for six consecutive
years. The Vikings now have a six-title lead over Kettering Fairmont (4)
for the most field hockey state titles. Thomas Worthington posted five
shots on goal compared to three for Columbus Academy, and also led in
penalty corners, 6-5.
In the 2013 regular season, Columbus Academy
tied 1-1 and lost 3-1 during two matches against Thomas Worthington.
Thomas Worthington, which had won its last state title in 2011, finished
the season 19-1-1.

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � Thomas Worthington defeated Shaker Heights 2-1
in the first semifinal game of the 2013 OHSAA state field hockey
tournament that began Friday at Upper Arlington High School.
Thomas Worthington (19-0-1) will play in the championship game Saturday
at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame and
Columbus Academy game. The Cardinals are looking to win their fourth
OHSAA field hockey state championship, with their most recent title
coming in 2011. Shaker Heights, which was making its first state
tournament appearance since 1995, finished the year 17-2-0.

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � Gahanna Columbus Academy defeated Cincinnati
Mount Notre Dame 1-0 in overtime in the second semifinal game of the
2013 OHSAA state field hockey tournament that began Friday at Upper
Arlington High School.
Gahanna Columbus Academy (17-2-1) will play in the championship game
Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Thomas Worthington. The Vikings are
looking to win their tenth OHSAA field hockey state championship, with
their most recent title coming in 2012. Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame,
which was making its fourth state tournament appearance and first since
2008, finished the year 15-3-2.
