ASSOCIATION NEWS RELEASE (March 8, 1999) GYMNASTICS
STATE TOURNAMENT Rocky River Magnificat won its fourth straight state championship and its eighth in the past nine seasons, recording an all-time state tournament record for points in the process with 145.275. Host and 1998 runner-up Dublin Coffman was second (143.450), Findlay was third (142.625) and Brecksville-Broadview Heights fourth (141.150). Magnificat set the previous team record of 144.750 in 1997. In Saturdays individual and all around competition, Magnificat senior Julie Devaty became the second Ohioan to win three all around titles and the first to win four straight titles in one event when she captured the championship in the balance beam. Devaty also won her third uneven parallel bars title (sharing this years honor with Middleburg Heights Midpark senior Ann Marie Kassouf), second floor exercise crown and finished second in the vault behind Madison senior Rickee Wirtzberger. Lakewoods Lori Hass was the only other three-time all around champ, winning titles in 1973, 74 and 75. TEAM RESULTS (TOP THREE):
