Division I: Reynoldsburg�s girls team rolled up 82 points in winning its first state championship after finishing as runner-up in 2008.

Sophomore Azia Walker won the 400 and also ran on the 4x200 (1:37.02) and 4x400 (3:43.83) relay teams, both of which set state and tournament records; senior Melissa Dodaro captured her second-consecutive title in the discus throw; sophomore Taneisha Cordell won the 800; and freshman Destinee Gause won the 200 and ran on the 4x200 relay.

Reynoldsburg�s 82 points are a record for a girls Division I team, while Cincinnati Withrow finished in second with 35 points. The 47-point margin of victory for Reynoldsburg is also a girls Division I record.

Gahanna Lincoln�s boys captured their second state title, scoring 48 points to hold off second place Cleveland Glenville, which tallied 45 points. Lincoln�s other championship came in 1979, while 15-time state champ Glenville finished second for the third time.

Lincoln junior Blake Heriot won both the 400 and 200 meters and took second in the 100 to lead the Lions. Fellow junior Herman Washington placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles as well.

Other notable performances included Cincinnati Withrow�s girls 4x100 team breaking its own state record (46.53); Olmsted Falls senior Katie Nageotte setting a tournament mark in the pole vault (12-8); Mason sophomore Zach Wills defending his title in the 3200 meter run; Trotwood-Madison�s boys 4x400 relay team also set state and tournament records in that event (3:13.32); Vandalia Butler senior Danny Neff repeating his title in the 1600 and also winning the 800; and senior Erik Kynard of Toledo Rogers defending his title in the high jump.

Division II: Cuyahoga Falls Christian Academy and Columbus Bishop Hartley shared the girls title as each scored 55 points. The last time two Division II girls teams split a state title was in 1992 (Cleveland Heights Beaumont and Springfield Shawnee).

It is CVCA�s second straight state title and Bishop Hartley�s fourth overall and first since 1988.

Hartley had several first place finishers. Chesna Sykes, a junior, won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and joined with senior Ashlee Hoffman, junior CharAnna Dixon and sophomore Aisha Cavin to set state and tournament records in the 4x100 meter relay (47.09). The same quartet won the 4x100 last year as well. Cavin also finished second in the 200.

CVCA had a second place finish in the 1600 meter run by senior Carolyn Case and also had third place finishes in the 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay and by senior Katie Gillespie in the 3200 meter run.

Pemberville Eastwood�s boys captured their first state title, scoring 47 points, after finishing as runner-up last year and in 2002. Justin Welch, a junior, defended his championship in the discus throw and took third in the shot put. Teammates in senior Crosby Schemenauer won the pole vault and senior Josh Hoodlebrink finished second in the long jump.

Other highlights included several girls and boys athletes defending their championships from last year. For the girls, Kayla Caldwell, a senior from Gnadenhutten Indian Valley, won her third straight championship in the pole vault.

For the boys, London senior Ethan Freet won the 300 meter hurdles and Creston Norwayne senior Cody Miller recaptured his 400 meter dash title; senior Rufus Walls from Bishop Hartley took the 200 meter dash again; and Sandusky Perkins junior Matthew Hoty won his second straight title in the shot put.

Division III: Gates Mills Gilmour Academy�s girls won its fourth state title since 2005, scoring 73 points to best second-place Versailles (62). Gilmour�s point total is the second highest ever for the small school division, trailing just Minster, which tallied 75.33 points in 1978. Versailles� point total would have won the meet in every year from 1985-2007.

Leading the Lancers was sophomore Candace Longino-Thomas, who won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was a member of the winning 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays. Teammate Bekka Simko, a junior, defended her title in the 400 and also ran on the state champion 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams. Gilmour�s 4x100 (48.70) and 4x200 (1:41.31) teams set both state and tournament records in the process.

Other highlights from the girls action included Barnesville senior Stephanie Morgan winning her third straight title in the 1600 and defending her 800 meter title by setting both state and tournament records in that event (2:09.77). Katherine Jamieson, a junior from Toledo Ottawa Hills, also defended her title in the 300 hurdles with a state and tournament record time of 43.18.

For the boys, Garfield Heights Trinity�s championship was its first in school history, as it outscored Pandora-Gilboa 45-38. Pandora-Gilboa�s runner-up finish was also its best in school history.

Trinity senior Jonathan Bobak captured both the 100 and 200 meter titles and also ran on the winning 4x200 meter relay team. Sophomore Nick Gliha took home the title in the 3200 meter run.

Also in the division, Findlay Liberty-Benton junior Seth Butler defended his championship in the 800 meter run.
