Solon Girls and Lakewood St. Edward Boys atop 2013 OHSAA Division I Track
& Field Podiums
Solon wins first state crown and Lakewood St. Edward wins back-to-back
titles
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Solon girls and Lakewood St. Edward boys track
teams won the 2013 OHSAA Division I girls and boys state track and field
state tournaments Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State
University.
Solon ran away with its first state crown by scoring 47 points behind the
strength of seven podium finishes. Its only championship finish, however,
came from the 4x200 meter relay team of Tinisee Kandakai (Jr.), Lauren McCoy
(So.), Dayna Jones (Sr.) and Jelvon Butler (Jr.). Its other podium finishes
included second-place finishes in the 100, 200 and 1600, a fourth-place
finish in the discus throw and two fifth-place finishes in the shot put and
4x400 meter relay.
Runner-up Withrow, which scored 25 points, received a first-place finish by
Ayanna Moseley (Sr.), Jaliyah Moses (So.), Arbria Williams (Jr.) and Adriana
Williams (Jr.) in the 4x100 meter relay, a second place finish by Williams,
Moseley, Moses and Xasha Cohen (Sr.) in the 4x200 meter relay, a third-place
finish from Cohen in the 300 meter hurdles and an eighth-place finish in the
long jump by Moseley.
New girls records were established by Cincinnati St. Ursula Academy�s Annie
Heffernam in the 3200 meter run (10:14.91 � state meet and stadium record)
and Olentangy Orange�s Katelyn Daniels in the shot put (51�2� � state, meet
and stadium record).
The 2013 state tournament also witnessed a historical day in OHSAA history
as eight wheelchair final events � four for boys and four for girls � were
added and qualifying wheelers competed in the 100 meters, 400 meters, 800
meters and shot put. In the boys contest Wooster sophomore Casey Followay
won the 400 and 800, Westland junior Tim Bailey won the 100 and Sheridan
senior Zach Hanf won the shot put. Ravenna Southeast�s Jenna Fesemyer won
every event in the girl�s competition.
Lakewood St. Edward won its second consecutive state title in dominating
fashion as it outscored runner-up Pickerington North 62-47. The Eagles were
led in scoring by senior Aaron Zadella who won both the shot put and discus
throw. Junior Steele Wasik also contributed 16 points by finishing second in
both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Senior Anthony Young finished second in
the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 100 meter dash, while Shaun Crawford
(So.) finished third and fifth, respectively, in both events. The
sixth-place 4x400 meter relay team of Young, Frank Schenkelberg (Sr.),
Soloman Warfield (Sr.) and Steele Wasik (Jr.) rounded out the Eagles� podium
finishes.
Runner-up Pickerington North senior Desmond Palmer led the Panthers in
scoring by finishing first in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and joining
Godwin Igwebuike (Sr.), Nick Gray (So.) and Roland Ladipo (Sr.) to win the
4x200 meter relay and Gray, Lucas Miller (So.) and Trey Browder (Jr.) to win
the 4x400 meter relay. Gray also finished fifth-place in the 400 meter dash
and John Harris (Jr.) finished sixth-place in the high jump.
New boys records were established by Lincoln�s Riak Reese in the 200 meter
dash (21.13 � stadium record), Westerville North�s Jacob Dumford in the 1600
meter run (4:08.21 � stadium record) and Cincinnati Northwest�s Dominick
Williams, Miles Baldwin, DeVohn Jacons and Jamiel Trimble in the 4x100 meter
relay (41.28 � stadium record).
The two-day attendance for the 2013 OHSAA state tournament was 27,441, which
marked the second-highest attendance all-time.

Columbus Eastmoor Academy Girls and St. Vincent-St. Mary Boys Win 2013 OHSAA
Division II Track & Field Titles
Eastmoor Academy girls win third title, St. Vincent-St. Mary boys return
to top of podium
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Eastmoor Academy girls and St.
Vincent-St. Mary boys won team titles in Division II at the 2013 OHSAA state
track and field championship Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The
Ohio State University.
Eastmoor, which finished as runner-up in the 2012 state competition, scored
58 points en route to the school�s third girls track and field state
championship (2013, 2004, 2005). They finished with three first-place
finishes, two second-place finishes and a third, fifth and seventh place
finish. Their top performances came from Aaliyah Barnes (Sr.) in the 100
meter dash, Cheyanne Carter (So.) in the 100 meter hurdles and Carter,
Barnes, Gianni Ross (So.) and Dajah Anderson (Jr.) in the 4x200 meter relay.
Runner-up Meadowdale scored 38 points to bring home its school�s first ever
girls track and field trophy. Oksana Lawrence (Jr.) won the 400 meter dash
and joined Ja'la Henderson (So.), Jamara Pettigrew (So.) and Allison
Mayfield-Brown (So.) to win the last race of the day (4x400 meter relay).
Fans of the 2013 state tournament also witnessed a historical day in OHSAA

On the boys side, Akron St.-Vincent St. Mary returned to the top of the
podium after a runner-up finish in 2012 and relied on a complete team effort
as they placed in seven different events, highlighted by a meet
record-breaking performance by Jordan Sensabaugh (Jr.), Jarel Wooldridge
(Jr.), Fransohn Bickley (Sr.) and Parris Campbell (Jr.) in the 4x200 meter
relay. The Fighting Irish also recorded a first-place finish in the 4x100
meter relay with Campbell, Bickley, Wooldridge and Vincent Lockett (So.).
Runner-up Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy�s only championship performance
came from the 4x800 meter relay team of Noah LeBay (Jr.), Benny Schwarz
(Sr.), Sherman Kortze (Sr.) and Ryan Adams (So.) Instead, it relied on the
strength of three second-place finishes by Kortze in the 400, Evan Carroscia
(Jr.) in the 300 hurdles, Carroscia, Adams, Schwarz and Kortze in the 4x400
and a fourth-place finish by Adams in the 1600 meter run.
Salem junior Anthony Shivers won the boys discus and set a new stadium
record with a toss of 203�2�.

Versailles Girls and Gahanna Columbus Academy
Boys Repeat as OHSAA Division III State Champions
Versailles ties fewest point total
for championship team in 39 years; Gahanna Columbus Academy wins fourth
state crown
COLUMBUS, Ohio � The Versailles girls and the Gahanna Columbus
Academy boys repeated the Division III team state champions at the 2013
OHSAA state track and field tournament Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial
Stadium at The Ohio State University.
The girls team contest was tightly contested heading into the last event
with a four-way tie for first place and a seven-way tie for second and,
similar to its 2012 team state championship, Versailles relied on its 4x400
meter relay to defeat runner-up Gahanna Columbus Academy by four points,
28-24. The 28 points scored by the Tigers tied the lowest point total for a
championship team in the 39-year history of the girls state track and field
state championships (St. Clairsville; 1981).
Fans of the 2013 state tournament also witnessed a historical day in OHSAA
history as eight wheelchair final events � four for boys and four for girls
� were added and qualifying wheelers competed in the 100 meters, 400 meters,
800 meters and shot put. In the boys contest Wooster sophomore Casey

Versailles, which is claiming its third team state title in the past four
years, relied on its relay teams to record two first-place finishes in the
4x100 (Lauren Bohman (Jr.), Gwen Keihl (Sr.), Megan Hemmelgarn (Sr.) and
Haley Winner (Fr.)) and 4x400 (Taylor Winner (So.), H. Winner, Meagan Winner
(Sr.) and Amanda Winner (Jr.)) and a second place finish in the 4x200 (A.
Winner, L. Bohman, G. Keihl and H. Winner).
Runner-up Gahanna Columbus Academy received second-place finishes in the
1600 meter run (Julia Rizk, So.) and the 4x800 meter relay (Andrea
Ballinger, So.; Elizabeth Falkenberg, So.; Margaret Sutton, Jr.; and Rizk),
a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (Aziza Corbett, Sr.; Andrea
Ballinger, So.; Margaret Sutton, Jr.; and Rizk) and seventh-place finishes
in the girls high jump (Anjali Kanwar (So.) and long jump (Jillian Woodard,
Jr.)
On the boys side, Gahanna Columbus Academy tallied one first-place finish,
two second-place finishes, three third-place finishes, a sixth-place finish
and two eighth-place finishes to score 49 points and edge runner-up Lima
Central Catholic by six points. It was the school�s fourth track and field
state championship (2013, 2012, 1981, 1977). The Vikings� only championship
performance came in the last race of the day when Mitchell Tuckerman (Jr.),
Dominic Facciolla (Sr.), Tyler Gittins (Sr.) and John Lint (Jr.) ensured a
Columbus Academy title with a win in the 4x400 meter relay.
Runner-up Lima Central Catholic�s Nick Taflinger (Fr.), Darius West (Jr.),
Jamir Coleman (Jr.) and Mykale Rogers (Jr.) recorded first-place finishes in
the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay while also setting a new meet record in the
4x200 (1:28.04). Rogers and Coleman also finished first and second,
respectively, in the long jump, and West finished fourth in the 100 meter
dash.
In addition to Central Catholic�s 4x200 meter relay team, three additional
meet records were broken at the Division III meet including the 1600 meter
run (Clayton Murphy; Tri-Village), the 3200 meter run (Kyle Pohlman;
Independence) and the 300 meter hurdles (Chad Zallow; Warren John F.
Kennedy). Zallow�s time of 36.87 in the 300 hurdles also set a new state
record.
