Second Time�s the Charm
No. 17 Cleveland Heights Beaumont Holds off No. 4 Norwalk for the Div. II
volleyball crown
DAYTON, Ohio �
In its second consecutive trip to the state tournament, 17th-Cleveland Heights
Beaumont School for Girls held off a valiant effort by fourth-ranked Norwalk
to beat the Truckers 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 15-8) Saturday, Nov.
10, to capture the 2012 OHSAA Division II volleyball state championship at
Wright State University�s Ervin J. Nutter Center. It was Beaumont�s (22-7)
second state tournament appearance and Norwalk�s (27-3) first state
runner-up showing in three attempts (2012, 2002, 1993).
Beaumont relied on a
stellar defense, which tallied 116 digs and 10 blocks in the match, to
outlast an impressive effort by the Truckers, who garnered 115 digs and five
blocks. The Blue Streaks� attack was led by sophomore Toni Anderson, who put
down 15 kills with a .306 hitting percentage, junior Molly Davet (10 kills;
14 digs) and senior Lauren Youngblood (eight kills; 12 digs). Senior Katie
Siefert and junior Kelsey Vallee set up the offense with 22 and 16 assists,
respectively, while senior Marin Jerse led the back row with 32 digs.
After an impressive semifinal performance where the Truckers defeated
tournament veteran Kettering Archbishop Alter in straight sets, Norwalk
received strong state final performances by sophomores Sydney Obringer (16
kills; 14 digs) and Geena Freriks (11 kills). They also received solid
contributions in the final game from junior Abby Moffit (42 assists; 14
digs), senior Sam Obringer (33 digs) and junior Mikailey Rogers (16 digs).

Cincinnati Ursuline Academy Wins School�s Fifth Title
No. 6 Lions defeat first-time state qualifier Massillon Jackson
DAYTON, Ohio �
The 2012 OHSAA Division I state volleyball championship between Cincinnati
Ursuline Academy and Massillon Jackson saw the No. 6 ranked Lions� balanced
offensive attack defeat the unranked Polar Bears 25-20, 25-16, 25-10
Saturday at Wright State University�s Ervin J. Nutter Center.
Ursuline Academy (23-6) becomes the seventh school with at least five state
volleyball titles, but hadn�t brought one home since 2009. The Lions have
made 12 total appearances in the state volleyball tournament. Jackson was
making its first state appearance.
The Lions, who beat second-ranked Toledo St. Ursula Academy in the state
semifinals, held off a determined Jackson squad to win the first set, 25-20,
and completed the afternoon in impressive fashion. Ursuline was led by
juniors Sam Fry and Paige Kebe, who each tallied 11 kills on .250 and .333
hitting percentages, respectively. Senior libero Courtney Grafton led the
Lions defense with 28 digs and senior Abby Weisenburger handed out 30
assists.
Jackson, which finished its season 28-2, was led by its first team
All-Ohioan, Paige Hill, who pounded 11 kills on a .257 hitting percentage.
Seniors Karlie Diruzza (11 digs), Kristin Cardwell (19 assists) and Laura
Kelly (22 digs) also had solid contributions to finish out their high school
careers.

Maria Stein Marion Local Wins Fourth State Title
No. 1 Flyers claim another
state crown after three consecutive titles in 07, 08 and 09
DAYTON, Ohio � In its sixth trip to the
OHSAA state volleyball tournament, top-ranked Maria Stein Marion Local
claimed its fourth state title, winning the Division IV state championship,
3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 22-18) over 15th-ranked Kidron Central Christian Saturday
at Wright State University�s Ervin. J. Nutter Center.
Marion Local (26-3) had previously won three consecutive state titles from
2007 to 2009, while Central Christian (27-3) takes home the runner-up trophy
for the second time (2012, 2002). The Comets also made the state tournament
in 2003 but lost in the semifinals.
Behind the strong hitting of its senior All-Ohioan Claire Heitkamp (16
kills), Marion Local was able to put away 40 kills compared to Central
Christian�s 28. The Flyers were led in assists by senior Hannah Arling (34)
and received double-digit digs from junior libero Megan Wendel (17), Arling
(11) and seniors Josie Winner (10) and Brianna Hess (10).
Central Christian was plagued at the net by 25 attaching errors but did
receive strong performances from seniors Sydney Mast (15 kills) and Makena
Granger (8 kills). Junior Melissa Nussbaum dished out 24 assists for the
Comets and sophomore libero Stacy Coblentz dug up 18 Marion Local attacks.
Granger and senior Marissa Krier each also had 11 digs in their final high
school contest.

Casstown Miami East Wins Back-to-Back State Titles
No. 1 Vikings defeat Columbus
Bishop Ready in three sets
DAYTON, Ohio � Casstown Miami East held
off a pesky Columbus Bishop Ready squad in set one and defended its OHSAA
Division III volleyball state crown in dominating fashion with a 3-0 set win
(28-26, 25-15, 25-17) Saturday at Wright State University�s Ervin. J. Nutter
Center.
The Vikings (29-1) rolled through the 2012 tournament trail and finished the
state tournament without losing a single set. Miami East�s back-to-back
state titles have come in their first two appearances at the state
tournament (2012, 2011).
After making their first state tournament appearance in 2011, the Silver
Knights of Bishop Ready (20-9) advanced to their first state championship
match after losing in the semifinals in 2011.
The Vikings were led by the sister duo of Abby and Samantha Cash who
recorded 10 kills, 10 digs and 18 assists and seven kills, 18 assists and 11
digs, respectively. Miami East was led on the defensive end by its junior
libero Allison Morrett�s 25 digs.
The Silver Knights witnessed an impressive performance by their senior
outside hitter, Karley Kusan, who recorded a double-double of 15 kills and
10 digs. Junior Kaitlyn Keyes dished out 26 assists for Ready and senior
Danielle Mercer tallied 20 digs.
