Irish defeat Thurgood Marshall 57-46 for OHSAA Division II State Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio Unranked Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary took its first lead with a little under three minutes to go in the first quarter and never relinquished it, cruising to a 57-46 win over Dayton Thurgood Marshall in the 2011 OHSAA Division II boys basketball state championship Saturday at Value City Arena.

Both teams started slow out of the gate, as St. Vincent-St. Mary and Thurgood Marshall shot 39 percent and 25 percent, respectively, from the field in the first quarter. St. Vincent-St. Mary was able to get things going as the game progressed, however, as the Irish finished the game with a 47 percent field goal percentage.
