Championships Recap
COLUMBUS, Ohio� The
boys and girls state bowling tournaments, wrapped up Saturday night at
Wayne�s Webb Columbus Bowl. In the girl�s tournament, the team title
belonged to St. Marys Memorial, with top individual honors going to
senior Crystal Boyer from Coldwater. The boy�s championship trophy was
won by Troy, with junior Corey Bayus from Struthers claiming the
individual honors.
In the girls team championship St. Marys defeated Hubbard in
a best of five matches three to one. The Roughriders (149-149-176-160)
finished strong to outlast Hubbard winning their first team bowling
state championship.
Girl�s individual champion Boyer (233-206-222) bowled well
enough to win top honors by more than 20 pins over her nearest
competitor.
The boy�s team championship took all five games for Troy to
finish on top. The Trojans posted scores of 206-168-176-187-215 to
defeat Wapakoneta winning their first team bowling state championship.
Troy claimed the championship after surviving a roll-off in the first
round against Massillon Perry. The state championship is the first
for Troy high school in any OHSAA boys or girls tournament.
Boy�s individual champion Bayus (212-227-258) took
individuals honors handily winning by 23 pins.
