Teeing Up to
Win a Championship
Top golfers are back in contention in 2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio The OHSAA state golf
championships have arrived. In 2010, NorthStar Golf Resort (Par 72,
6796 yards) and The Ohio State Golf Club will once again play host
to the boys and girls golf tournaments. Girls Division II and boys
Division II and III championship play is October 15 and 16. The two
day tournament consists of 18 holes each day, where team champions
and individual medalists will be crowned.
In girls Division II, 2009 team state champion Chardon Notre
Dame-Cathedral Latin returns to defend its title. It wont be an
easy task for the Lions, as the top eight teams from last years
tournament also return to the Gray course (Par 70, 5560 yards) at
Ohio State. Among those going after the individual title will be
returning runner-up medalist, Morgan Ransom (Jr., Gahanna Columbus
Academy), and last years fourth-place finisher, Lauren Volz (Sr.,
Huron).
Boys Division II 2009 team champion, Dayton Oakwood, has earned the
opportunity to defend its title, while playing the Scarlet course
(Par 71, 7,043 yards) at Ohio State. Trying to stop them will be the
previous years state runner-up, third-place, and fourth-place
teams, Kettering Archbishop Alter, Hunting Valley University School,
and Columbus St. Francis DeSales, respectively.
In Sunbury, a new boys Division III team champion will be crowned
this year as 2009 champion MInster did not qualify. Alex Andrews
(Sr., Gates Mills Gilmour Academy) is looking to lead his team to a
state title along with a repeat individual medalist performance.
Lima Central Catholic and Sugarcreek Garaway, who between them have
won six team state championships since 2002, are also back in the
field.
Admission for the tournaments is $9, and golfers will tee off at
9:00 A.M. at all locations.
