Tough Test Lies Ahead for
State Golfers
COLUMBUS, Ohio The 42nd annual boys
Division II and III and fourth annual girls Division II golf tournaments
are set to begin October 14 with 36 holes of golf spanning two days. The
action returns to The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus and
NorthStar Golf Resort in Sunbury.
A very good girls Division II field will be
facing the Gray Course (Par 70, 5,560 yards) at Ohio State. Top
individual returnees include 2010 individual runner-up sophomore Sarah
Kolodzik from Dayton Miami Valley School, senior Brynn FitzGerald from
Pepper Pike Orange and junior Ashley Yarbrough from the 2010 team state
champion Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown. The 2010 state team runner-up,
Poland Seminary has three of its five golfers back from a year ago, looking to improve upon their success.
The boys Division II tournament field will
get its second look at NorthStar Golf Resort (Par 72, 6,796 yards) after
the course played host to the Division III tournament in 2010. Dayton
Oakwood returns as defending team champion and is looking to become the
fifth school in Ohio with four boys state team championships (1985,
2009, 2010). Many new
faces will be atop the leaderboard in 2011 as senior Logan Lagodich from
Canton Central Catholic is the only returning golfer from the top 10.
In boys Division III, golfers will face a
tough task on the Scarlet Course (Par 71, 7,043 yards) at Ohio State.
Sugarcreek Garaway is led by senior Ryan Troyer, who was an individual
co-champion in 2010. Gates Mills Gilmour Academy won the team
championship the previous year at NorthStar and is looking to continue
play well, led by junior Andrew Bieber. Other top returning individuals from 2010 include Connor Dudley from Fremont St. Joseph
Central Catholic and Jon Taylor from Columbus Wellington School.
