2011 Girls State Soccer
Tournament Preview
The 2011
OHSAA girls state soccer semifinal matchups are set for November 9th, as
four teams in three divisions look to advance to Columbus� Crew Stadium,
to claim to be Ohio�s best and win a state championship. This season
marks the first year where girls soccer will have three divisions.
The first Division I semifinal
matchup includes 2010 state semifinalist and second-ranked Strongsville
(17-2-0) taking on Sylvania Northview (13-4-4). Northview is the only
team in the tournament who was not ranked in the final Ohio Scholastic
Soccer Coaches Association poll. After beating sixth-ranked rival Dublin
Coffman in the regional finals, fourth-ranked Dublin Jerome (19-1-1)
will play eighth-ranked Centerville (18-1-2), which making its second
appearance in the state tournament in the last three years.
Division II semifinals have 2010
Division I state champion and top-ranked Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit
(19-0-2) pitted against Toledo St. Ursula Academy (14-6-1), who is
making its second appearance in the state tournament. Walsh Jesuit is
the only top-ranked team left in the tournament. The opposite side of
the bracket has seventh-ranked Columbus St. Francis DeSales (16-4-2)
against fourth-ranked Kettering Archbishop Alter (15-3-3). DeSales has
previously won the title three times (95, 97, 98), while Alter is still
looking for its first state crown with runner-up finishes in 2001 and
1998.
For the first-ever girls Division
III state tournament, fans will see Shaker Heights Laurel (14-5-1)
against Archbold (19-1-1). This is each school�s first appearance in the
state tournament. The second semifinal game has sixth-ranked Middletown
Bishop Fenwick (13-3-5), which won the title in 2008, against
seventh-ranked Cincinnati Summit Country Day (15-4-1). This is the first
state appearance for Country Day.

The girls
state championship games take place Saturday, November 12 at Crew
Stadium in Columbus. The Division III championship game will be played
at Noon, followed by Division II at 3:30 p.m. and Division I at 7:00
p.m.
