State Tournament Recap DIVISION III
Steubenville Catholic Central Girls and McDonald Boys Take Home 2011
OHSAA Division III State Titles The Steubenville Catholic Central girls and the McDonald boys won Division III team titles at the 2011 OHSAA state track and field tournament Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University. Steubenville Catholic Central scored 41 points, including three first-place finishes and one second-place finish to outscore runner-up Versailles� 37 points and win the first team track and field title in school history. Catholic Central was led by senior Teddi Maslowski, who individually accounted for 28 points, with first-place finishes in both the 100 meter hurdles (14.62) and 300 meter hurdles (44.79). It was the second year in a row that she won both events. Maslowski also placed second in the long jump (18-02.5). Maslowski also anchored the Crusaders� first-place 4x200 meter relay team, along with Margaret Beigel, Taylor Zapolnik and Katrina Vosteen, which finished in 1:42.64. McDonald tallied three first place finishes, one second-place finish and one third-place finish to score 44 points en route to winning the Division III boys team title, the school�s second track and field state championship, with runner-up Anna finishing with 34 points. Matthias Tayala recorded first-place finishes in both the shot put (64-08) and a new Division III state meet record performance in the discus (196-03). Miles Dunlap finished first in the 300 meter hurdles (38.42), second-place in the 110 meter hurdles (14.86) and third-place in the 200 meter dash (22.29). New OHSAA girls state records were set by Catholic Central�s Maslowski in the 100 meter hurdles prelims (14.39 � meet record), McComb�s Jackie Leppelmeier in the shot put (49-03.50 � meet and state records) and Hamler Patrick Henry�s Tori Meyer in the pole vault (12-08.00 � tied meet and stadium records). In addition to Matthias� previously mentioned record, boys OHSAA state records were also set by Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic�s Brant Reardon in the high jump (7-00.00 � tied meet record) and Dan Skiba of Mineral Ridge in the long jump (24-05.25 � meet and state records). Columbus Bishop Hartley Girls and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary Boys Stand
atop 2011 OHSAA Division II Track & Field Podiums Columbus Bishop Hartley girls and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary boys won team titles in Division II at the 2011 OHSAA state track and field championship Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University. Hartley scored 47 points, including two first-place finishes and three third-place finishes, en route to a comfortable victory over the closest competitor, runner-up Toledo Rogers, which scored 30 points. It was the school�s fifth track and field state championship and second in three years, having also won in 2009 and placing second in 2010. Hartley scored first-place finishes in the 4x200 meter relay (1:40.72) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:50.13). Both relay teams consisted of Najah Greer, Maya Pedersen, Chelsea Scott and Aisha Cavin. The Hawks� 4x100 meter relay team of Deja Martin, Greer, Nala Key and Destany Martin placed third (49.30), as did Cavin in the 100 meter dash (12.49) and Pedersen in the 400 meter dash (56.84). The Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary boys scored 51 points with two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes, to beat runner-up Dayton Dunbar�s 44 points. It marks the school�s first state championship in track and field. SVSM�s 4x100 meter relay team of Sae�Von Fitzgerald, Doran Grant, Parris Campbell and Mark Murphy placed first (42.42), as did Jacob Swords in the 800 meter run (1:51.44). Second-place finishes were recorded by the 4x800 meter relay team of Sean Poholski, Patrick O�Brien, Ian Walsh and Jacob Swords (7:47.30), which broke the Division II state meet record, along with winner Peninsula Woodridge, and Doran Grant in the 110 meter hurdles (14.22). A new OHSAA girls state meet record was set by Kettering Archbishop Alter�s 4x800 meter relay team of Ashley Rodgers, Austin Borton, Rebecca Esselstein and Olivia Albers (9:10.22 � meet and state records). New OHSAA boys state meet records were set in four relays. The Peninsula Woodridge 4x800 meter relay team of Jimmy Charles, Drake Sulzer, Jacob Onifer and Vibushan Sivakumaran (7:37.43 � meet, state and stadium records) and the Dayton Dunbar 4x400 meter relay team of James Woody, Michael Ohiembor, Antonio Blanks and Eric Blair (3:17.26 � meet record) on the first day. On the second day, records were set by the Steubenville 4x200 meter relay team of Jonathan Sherrell, Najee Murray, Josh Thompson and Shaq Petteway (1:27.02 � meet record) and the Dayton Dunbar 4x400 meter relay team of Woody, Ohiembor, Blanks and Blair (3:16.09 � meet record). Reynoldsburg Girls and Cincinnati LaSalle Boys Win 2011 OHSAA Division I
Track & Field Titles The Reynoldsburg girls and Cincinnati LaSalle boys track teams won the 2011 OHSAA Division I girls and boys state track and field state tournaments Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University. Reynoldsburg scored 47 points, including two first-place finishes, one second-place finish and two third-place finishes, to win its third-consecutive state championship. Cincinnati Withrow finished in second place with 39 points. Reynoldsburg was led by Destinee Gause, who placed first in the 100 meter dash (11.82) and the 200 meter dash (23.84). It was her second year in a row winning the 200 meter dash. Gause also anchored the Raiders� third place 4x200 meter relay team (1:39.63) and second-place 4x400 meter relay team. In addition to Gause, both relay teams also consisted of Faith Washington, Kacia Grant and Monie Jenkins. Washington placed third in the 300 meter hurdles (41.99). Cincinnati LaSalle scored 36 points to edge out runner-up Centerville�s 34 points to win the Division I boys team title. It is the school�s second boys track and field state championship, with the first dating back to 1994. The Lancers� 4x800 meter relay team of Travis Hawes, Jaleel Hytchye, Kevin Kleusener and Ethan Bokeno took first place (7:46.74), in addition to Bokeno placing second in the 800 meter run and Rodriguez Coleman placing third in the 300 meter hurdles. New OHSAA girls state records were set by Gause in the 100 meter dash prelims (11.63 � stadium record), New Albany�s Taneisha Cordell in the 800 meter run (2:07.35 � meet and stadium records) and Medina�s Taylor Burke in the high jump (6-01.25 � meet, state and stadium records). New boys state records were established by Solon�s A.J. Hicks in the discus (200-07.00 � stadium record), Massillon Washington�s Devin Smith in the long jump (24-07.00 � stadium record) and Jacob Blankenship of Gahanna Lincoln (17-00.00 � meet and stadium records; tied state record).
