Boys Division I
COLUMBUS, Ohio- A beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio gave way for Dublin Jerome to secure its seventh boys golf state championship on Saturday on the Gray course at The Ohio State University Golf Club with a score of 607 (295-312). The Celtics broke the overall team record, the low team score record and the single round team score record (295).
Green Senior Maxwell Moldovan walked away with his first state championship Saturday at The Ohio State University Golf Club. Moldovan earned First Team Honorable mention and set a low individual score record (144).
Powel Olentangy Liberty finished as state runner-up with senior Trey Rath win co-medalist with Senior Blake Solomon from Dublin Jerome both for Individual runner-up both scoring a 147 on Gray course.
Girls Division I
COLUMBUS, Ohio- Lewis Center Olentangy Orange girls golf team earned state champions for the second year in a row at The Ohio State University Golf Club.
Olentangy Orange was led by junior Ashley Au, who tied for sixth place after shooting a 145 (73-72).
Centerville finished as state runner-up with senior Marissa Wenzler leading the team shooting a 144 (73-71).
The 2017 Individual winner Katie Hallinan from Cincinnati Walnut Hills broke the overall individual score (137). Among other records set were All time 18 hole scores under par record and overall (36 holes) record.
State runner-up senior from Solon, Jennifer Wang scored a 140 on the scarlet course.
Boys Division II
SUNBURY, Ohio — Gahanna Columbus Academy used a record-breaking team effort to capture its eighth OHSAA boys golf state championship in school history Saturday at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury. The Vikings posted boys Division II NorthStar state records with a Saturday single-round team score of 295 and total score of 596.
The Vikings were paced by three top-10 finishers. Sophomore Ali Khan (145), senior Cole Walter (146) and sophomore Griffin Mitchell (151) took home All-Ohio honors.
Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin took home runner-up honors for the second straight year. The Lions set a boys Division II NorthStar state record on Friday with a single-round team score of 297, but it was overtaken by Columbus Academy’s 295 on Saturday.
The Lions were paced by Charlie Toman, who earned medalist honors. The senior standout set boys Division II NorthStar state records for lowest single-round score (66) and total score (137). Toman finished an outstanding prep career at the state tournament, placing third in 2016, tied for 20th in 2015 and winning medalist as a freshman in 2014.
Girls Division II
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a runner-up finish at the 2016 OHSAA state championship, the Independence girls golf team took home the school’s first OHSAA girls state championship on Saturday on the Gray Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club.
The Blue Devils set a Division II state championship record with a team score of 320-332-652, beating the previous record by six strokes. Leading the way for the Independence team were seniors Sophia Trombetta and Lyndsay Blum. Trombetta finished in a tie for state runner-up, shooting a 68-74-142, while Blum finished in the top ten shooting a 75-77-152. Trombetta’s first-round score of 68 tied an OHSAA girls golf single-round record.
For the second consecutive year, Eaton’s Sarah Willis earned medalist honors thanks to a second-round score of 67, which broke the OHSAA girls golf single round record. In 2016, Willis tied the record, shooting a 68 in both of her rounds. Willis finished the 2017 tournament as the only player under par, shooting a 72-67-139.
Finishing 11 strokes behind Independence, Shelby earned state runner-up with a 335-328-663. Freshman Amanda Ruminski led Shelby, shooting a 79-74-153.
Boys Division III
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Worthington Christian captured its first boys golf state championship with a score of 623 (306-317) at the 2017 OHSAA Boys Division III State Tournament at The Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course on Saturday.
Worthington Christian held a nine-stroke lead over eventual runner-up Gates Mills Gilmour Academy after the first day of play, shooting a Division III Scarlet Course single-round record 306. The Warriors finished with three players inside the top 13. Junior Tyler Jones finished tied for fifth (75-77-152), junior Will Evans finished tied for tenth (78-77-155), and senior Jake Hoheisel finished tied for thirteenth (77-79-156).
For the second consecutive year, Columbiana’s Jared Wilson earned Division III medalist honors, shooting a 69-72-141. Wilson’s 141 beats his 2016 performance by a single stroke and was the lone score under par at the 2017 tournament. This year marks Wilson’s third straight year finishing in the top five.
Gates Mills Gilmour Academy finished as the 2017 Division III state runners-up, with a team score of 315-325-640. Junior Tucker Morris was the team’s top finisher, shooting 70-79-149, good for fourth place overall.
