OHSAA Board of Directors Meeting Highlights

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors held its regularly scheduled October meeting Thursday morning at the OHSAA office. The following are highlights from the meeting. Complete meeting minutes will be posted at OHSAA.org.

  • The board approved a new item in the basketball tournament regulations (girls and boys) that calls for a running clock in the second half of tournament games if the score differential reaches 35 points. The running clock will remain in effect unless the score differential falls under 30 points. The running clock regulation is only for the tournament, beginning at the sectional level.
  • In addition to basketball, the board approved the tournament regulations in all the other OHSAA winter sports. The regulations will be posted on the respective winter sports pages at OHSAA.org.
  • The board was updated on the upcoming football state championships, which will be held Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 2 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. Of note, Divisions I, II, V and VII will have their championship games on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, while Divisions III, IV and VI will have their championship games on Dec. 2. The OHSAA will announce the specific game times for the championship games following the state semifinals on Nov. 24.
  • Since the board’s September meeting, 22 member schools were penalized for committing infractions of OHSAA bylaws or sports regulations. The list of infractions and penalties is always included in the complete meeting minutes, but media members may request the list in advance from Tim Stried, OHSAA Director of Communications, at [email protected].
  • The board recognized eight schools that have qualified for Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity School Awards for the 2016-17 school year. The winners include Ashville Teays Valley East Middle School, Cincinnati St. Ursula Academy, Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School, Hamilton Ross High School, Johnstown Monroe High School, Washington Court House High School, Dublin Sells Middle School and Vermillion High School.
  • The OHSAA Foundation Student Leadership Conference was held Tuesday, October 3, at the Archie Griffin Ballroom at the Ohio Union at The Ohio State University. The annual conference welcomes 1,500 students, making it the largest student leadership conference in the country.
