Ottawa-Glandorf Wins Third Boys
Basketball State Crown with 67-46 Win Over Versailles
Titans defeat Tigers behind senior
T.J. Metzgers Division III state record nine three-pointers
COLUMBUS, Ohio Ottawa-Glandorfs All-Ohio senior T.J. Metzger
drained a Division III state championship game record nine three-point field
goals and tied the Division III state championship game state record with 36
points to lead the Titans to a 67-46 win over Versailles in the 2013 OHSAA
Division III boys basketball state championship game Saturday in Value City
Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in front of 13,851 fans.
The Titans, making their seventh state tournament appearance, have now
claimed three state titles (2013, 2008, 2004). They were the only returning
state qualifier from the 2012 tournament, where they lost to Portsmouth in
the semifinals.
The Titans (26-3) shot a scorching 75 percent from the field in the first
quarter and jumped out to a 24-11 lead. Metzger finished the first frame
with 18 points, including five-of-six shooting from behind the arc. Ottawa-Glandorf
outscored Versailles just 27-25 over the next two quarters, but the Titans
momentum and Metzgers sharp shooting kept the challengers at bay in the
fourth.
Metzger finished the game 11-of-17 shooting, including nine-of-14 from
behind the arc. In addition to the state records mentioned above, he also
broke the Division III state record for most three-point field goals in two
games with 13 (five in semifinals). Head Coach Tyson McGlaughlin also
received a solid contribution from his other All-Ohio senior, Michael
Rosebrook, who finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds.
From the time we left the Schott last year these guys had that look of
disappointment, and rightfully so, McGlaughlin explained in his postgame
press conference. It was a long season of ups and downs but these guys
continued to battle and get better. You could see the last four games how
they stuck together and overcame adversity.
Runner-up Versailles (23-6), which takes home its second state runner-up
trophy in as many appearances, was led by sophomore Kyle Ahrens and senior
Chad Winner, who finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Columbus Bishop Watterson Wins First State
Boys Basketball Championship
Eagles win the title over Akron St. Vincent-St.
Mary 55-52
COLUMBUS, Ohio Third-ranked Columbus Bishop Watterson held off a
strong second half run by unranked Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary in the OHSAA
Division II championship game to win its first boys basketball state title
55-52 Saturday afternoon in Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein
Center on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
After building a 10 point lead in the second quarter the Eagles saw their
largest lead of the day whittled down to two points with 20 seconds left to
play in the game after SVSM senior Jalen Hudson converted on two free
throws. An Irish foul with 11 seconds to play sent Watterson junior Tommy
Geraghty to the line where he made one of two free throws to give Watterson
a three point lead. SVSM was left with one more opportunity when senior
Franshon Bickleys three-point field goal from the left wing missed as time
expired, making Watterson the champion.
In its first trip to the state tournament and championship game, Watterson
(28-1) was led in scoring by juniors Cody Calhoun and Matt Hughes, who each
scored 14 points. Senior Bryan Jackson added 12 points to help pace the
Eagles.
Were thrilled to be here, thrilled to be state champs, said Watterson
head coach Vince Lombardo. We played two great ball clubs I think beating
(Kettering) Alter and St. Vincent-St. Mary, with the history theyve had
coming in, and coming in here the first time for our guys, just a tremendous
job by our young men.
St. Vincent-St. Mary (20-10) finished as state runner-up for the second time
in eight championship game appearances. The Irish were led by Jalen Hudson
who scored 17 points in his final high school game.

Vikings defeat Leipsic, win title for first time

COLUMBUS, Ohio Second-ranked Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph
pulled away in the second half to defeat unranked Leipsic 87-63 in the OHSAA
Division IV championship game Saturday evening in Value City Arena at the

percentage in the game. VASJ finished with five players in double-digits
scoring, including Flannigan and Gibson, along with sophomores Brian Parker,

The 2013 championship game marked the ninth time VASJ had reached the
pinnacle game. With the win, the Vikings now have five state titles, their
last previous title coming in 1995. The Vikings finished the season with a
25-4 record.
Leipsic (25-5) stayed within striking distance of VASJ until about three and
a half minutes remaining in the third quarter, when the Vikings tenacious
defense was no longer able to keep VASJ's hot-shooting at bay. Leipsic was
led in scoring by seniors Devin Mangas, who scored 18 points, Austin Brown,
with 16 points and Caleb Barrera with 10 points. Brown also grabbed nine
rebounds on the evening.
The Vikings were making their second state tournament appearance. The only
other showing for the school came in 1925. Leipsic finishes as state
